About Donna M
Using Zoom, I am excited to offer my 20 years of experience as a credentialed teacher of Drawing, Painting, and miscellaneous Visual Art projects, to anyone who is excited to learn new skills for creating Art, or expanding on existing skills. I firmly believe that learning through one on one individualized instruction is the most satisfying way to learn, and for me it is the most satisfying and rewarding way to teach.
You will find me a most qualified, enthusiastic, and patient teacher who will tell you that you do not need to know how to draw a straight line, that is what rulers are for ;)
I absolutely love teaching as success delights and inspires me!
My students have proven to me that if you understand light through using observational drawing skills you can succeed at creating art that you are proud of.
I have drawn since I can remember and sold my first drawing at age 12. In a Vocational Technical High School I was trained as a graphic artist. My degrees include an AA in Fine Art, a BA in Fine Art, and a CA teaching credential that qualifies me to teach any age. My specialty has become creating the landscape with printmaking, a variety of drawing materials, pastel, watercolor, and acrylic paint. (After 35 years I became allergic to oil paint)

My credentials include a BA in Fine Art and a teaching credential from San Francisco State University which authorizes me to teach any age.
I have;
- worked in graphic design and animation;
- created with various printmaking methods;
- used watercolor, oil paint and pastel, acrylic;
- used dry media such as pencil, charcoal, conti crayon, and pastel.

It is important that I meet with you before the first lesson so that we can be sure that I can meet your needs.
We look at your work and agree about what kind of lessons will get you to your goals. Goals can be as vague as, "I want to improve" or, "I want to have fun" to very specific, "I want to understand arial perspective so I can make my abstract work use space more effectively".
You will have homework. We will begin each lesson reviewing your homework so we can evaluate your improvement and the direction of the current and future lessons.
My method is student based and you will direct, help me understand, which methods will be best to get you to your goals.
Learning art is fluid you may start with curiosity about one technique or subject and then find yourself going in an entirely new direction!
I've worked in an urban school district teaching students of all creative abilities from age 10+.
I will be happy to send samples of student work.
There are many qualified tutors that you will find out there. My advice on selecting a tutor is to meet before your first session so that you can personally explain what you are looking for, and most importantly, to find someone whose personality is one you like, and whose work you respect. This can be more meaningful than credentials.
I sold my first drawing to my 8th grade art teacher. From then on I did not stop making art!

I request a free introductory meeting with all students.
The first three lessons are $35.00 and each lesson thereafter is $30.00.
A materials list will be provided once we agree on your goals and preferences. You will be responsible for acquiring any needed materials. If you are in an area with no "art" stores I will direct you to a variety of online sources.
