About Jeffrey
Hi! My name is Jeffrey Thornton and I have been a drummer/percussionist going on 38 years now. I've played for and been a part of a wide range of bands and ensembles during my ongoing musical career. And have had the opportunity to partake in numerous studio recording sessions. Coupled with an extensive amount of professional touring experience. Across the U.S. from (1997-2007). I also have given and taught private lessons off and on. Through my own personal instructional teaching company. Established in 2010 called (The) Drum Addict. I teach and perform a plethora of styles and genres of music. From concert to symphonic and marching band. Country to gospel. Pop to rap. Jazz to latin. Reggae. Hard rock. Classic rock. Alternative. Grunge. Punk. Metal. And just about any and everything inbetween. My teaching focuses on my student's strengths and reasons for learning. I ensure each of my student's are taught from a personalized curriculum. That will bring them closer to their musical goals. While emphasizing the fundamentals that will prepare and enrich them for life. I believe I can encourage and engage any curious or dedicated young or older student. With my eclectic cornucopia of musical experience and perspectives. A pupil taught under my tutelage will learn to become proficient with practice/patience and time in the following.

percussive insturment.
*How to set up a drum set/percussive insturment.
*How to tune a drum set/percussive insturment.
*How to choose the proper sticks/mallets for a drum set/percussive insturment.
*A beginners study in music "drum" theory.
*Learning musical form. i.e.
(Basic drum notation)
*How to read drum and percussion music/charts.
*How to play to/with a metronome.
*Learing to play backbeats and fills.
*The 40 International drum rudiments.
*Snare drum variations.
*Learning triplets. Paradiddles and progressive accents.
*Playing open and closed rolls in different durations.
*Understanding syncopation and polyrhythmic patterns.
*Playing in various time signatures. Beginning with 4/4.
*Learning and applying dynamics in drumming.
*Doing basic warm up rudimentary drum/percussive exercises.
*Learning entire songs. Along with creating and playing solos in a variety of musical styles. In basic rock. Pop. Country. Gospel. Jazz. R&B. Latin. Reggee and funk.
*A brief history of drums/percussion. With biographical studies of famous world renown and national trailblazing drummers/percussionist. From both the past and the present.
*And much more through future drumming (advanced) curriculum. Accordingly to the student's progressive individual musical path.
