About Anna
For over ten years I have dedicated my life to teaching and mentoring youth in formal and informal learning environments. I started my academic career at Johnson State College in Vermont as a student in the Outdoor Education program. I received my B.A. in Recreation Administration from Humboldt State University in California. I graduated from the University of Southern Maine with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. I recently became certified to teach AP English Language and Composition.
My academic training in education prepared me to start my career as a wilderness guide and teacher at Summit Achievement, a wilderness therapy school in Stow, Maine which caters to students ages thirteen to nineteen. From there, I joined the Fryeburg Academy community as a member of the English department where I continued to develop and implement freshman, junior, SAT prep, and AP English curriculum. I also served as an advisor to ten students to ensure they stayed on track with academics as they managed diverse challenges including behavior, learning differences, mental illness, family systems, and legal issues. I was a member of a five-person dorm team, serving as a dorm parent to boarding students.
I worked closely with other teachers, counselors, and administration to create appropriate academic and life skills objectives for the students. My teaching philosophy is founded in the recognition that students who are struggling in school are struggling in other areas of their lives. It is my intention to provide students with successful and inspiring experiences in the classroom and in the community. I am a devoted and effective teacher and always exercise compassion, patience, and flexibility. I strive to foster students’ academic success and to help enrich their lives.
