About Emily
I currently teach Creative Writing and Academic Composition at Cornell University, where I have been working as a lecturer for two and a half years. I am a lively, engaging instructor with a proven history of improving student writing and fostering in students a meaningful engagement with literature and the written arts.
Reading and writing bring me so much joy, but so many students feel burnt out and disinterested by their past school experiences. I like showing people how they can find fun in the work!
I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Cornell University, where I have been teaching writing classes to undergraduates for two and a half years.

I believe in "meeting people where they're at" and teaching them how to teach themselves; in my experience, the only way to improve a student's writing is to improve their reading and critical thinking skills. The rest follows naturally, and requires surprisingly little course correction. We find something the student is genuinely passionate about and use that as a springboard for encouraging the kind of focus and thoughtfulness that good writing requires.
