About Alyssa
The one thing I most enjoy about working with students is building a good relationship. I believe that this is the key to successfully help a student to reach his/her greatest potential. As a certified English teacher I am well versed in what is expected of students in the classroom. I have taught English and other subjects in a few different schools throughout the state. In addition I have subbed long-term many times and built up a great rapor with students.
In my 5 years as a teacher I have encountered a large demographic of various students. During my first position I was able to teach English as a second language to Arabic students that had only recently immigrated to the country. I believe that teaching is my true calling as I have always enjoyed working with students. English is what I truly enjoy teaching which stems from a lifelong love of reading and writing.
I decided to puruse a career as an English teacher in my second year of community college.
I am a certified secondary education English teacher with 5 years working as both a classroom teacher and a long-term substitute teacher in a few different schools. I have worked with all grades K-12 and have received all the required training and professional learning.

My process when working with a new student is to do some ice breakers and learn about them as a person. In return I also share a bit about myself as a person and this helps to build a relationship with my new student. After this I ask the new student what they are currrently struggling with in English and/or other Language Arts classes.
I have worked with students of various demographics including ESL students that only spoke Arabic and very little to no English. These students came from war-torn Middle Eastern countries such as Yemen, Jordan, Pakistan, etc. The school was 90% Arabic with very little diversity in the student population. I have also worked with African American students in a Bay City middle school and in three mostly white rural elementary, middle, and high school settings. I have experience working with students that come from low-income and unstable households.

Alyssa did her student teaching in our middle school classroom as well as subbing in our classrooms. She was very personable and Awesome with our middle school children. She was punctual, Respectful, responsible, and had a great relationship with them. She had a variety of ways to reach children through different types of instruction. I would highly recommend her for any tutoring positions available. She would be an excellent tutor for any age level.
