About Margaret
I am a New York state certified English teacher with 15 years of teaching experience. I have a master’s degree in English from SUNY New Paltz, and ten years of experience teaching English to high school and middle school students. In addition to my experience teaching at the secondary level, I also have ten years of experience teaching English to college students, and three years of experience teaching primary skills in a Montessori classroom.
Although I have spent many years teaching in a classroom setting, I have often seen the greatest strides made by my students when we have individual conferences or tutoring sessions. The classroom setting is great for delivering information to a large group of students, but to build real skills and understanding I find that nothing matches one on one learning opportunities.
Tutoring is the most enjoyable job I have ever had. I love working with students individually or in small groups. Progess happens quickly during one on one sessions, and I get to see students make the leap from confusion to understanding, and from insecurity to confidence. It is extremely rewarding to be a part of that process.
