David is an absolute gem - he isn’t the type of teacher to open a book and go page by page (I have had these - and sadly still have these types of lessons with another teacher), he figures out how you can learn best and there’s nothing better in a teacher (music or otherwise). He is also super passionate about all types of music - i happen to be lucky enough to be able to study flamenco with him where you could describe him as being a deep expert (cultural and musical) and able to teach anyone to play and think like a professional (if you follow his advice :)). I can’t highly recommend him enough. You are missing out not taking a lesson - so do yourself the favor?

I've been taking flamenco guitar lessons from David for the past year and a half. His knowledge of flamenco history and culture is amazing. He is both a flamenco singer and guitar player, deeply involved in the bay area flamenco community. He is a master musician, so if you want to learn theory as well as a playing repertoire and technique, he has you. He is incredibly open and friendly with a soft and caring personality. He is quick to understand where I am at with a piece or a problem and immediately provides solutions and suggestions. I expect to spend many years studying with him. I feel grateful and lucky to have him as a teacher and friend.

I took flamenco guitar lessons with David for about 3 years. He is a true educator— an excellent teacher! We focused on all aspects of flamenco, from falsetas (guitar solos) to cante y baile accompaniment, to the history and evolution of the art form. I cannot recommend working with him enough, as a true beginner or a more advanced student. Olé!

I have been taking flamenco guitar lessons from David Lopez-White for several months and highly recommend him as a teacher. David has impressed me with his skill as an instructor and heartfelt dedication to teaching. He develops a plan for each student and comes impressively prepared to lessons with materials (books, videos, etc.) tailored to the student’s needs. David’s approach includes technique work and repertoire development across flamenco’s many palos (forms), and he also offers in-depth perspectives on history and geography that are so important to understanding the art form. David’s passion for flamenco is obvious and he treats students with patience and good humor. He is detail oriented and makes sure students are playing the material correctly, while remaining encouraging and enthusiastic. Davis is also an excellent singer, which provides opportunities to work on flamenco cante accompaniment as well as solo playing. Bottom line: I notice a real improvement in my playing since working with David (as does my wife!). I’m having a blast. David is truly a special teacher and music mentor.

David is a talented and extremely knowledgable musician. He has a deep love and respect for the music and imparts this love on his students. Always going above and beyond, he gives all of himself in his students, making sure they not only have proper technique, but a strong foundation of knowledge about the tradition of flamenco. He is able to breakdown and explain the complexities of this arcane art form in a way that is accessible to all levels of musicians. I couldn't recommend him more highly!

David did a wonderful job, teaching me bass via Zoom with a lot of focus on what I wanted to do. Even though my interests ranged from technical to classical to theoretical to funk, he always had something he could show me and proved to have great knowledge of the instrument as well as of music theory and history. Simply put, David is a great teacher. His lessons incorporated the perfect blend of theory and patience while opening up new horizons on the fret board. His style of teaching is very flexible so that one can hone in on what excites them. For me, that was jazz and David made a huge difference in my creativity.
