I am a retired middle/high school teacher and am currently taking guitar lessons from Dan; however I do pink around the piano so maybe that'll be next for me as I see Dan also teaches piano. Yay! Dan has alot of qualities that are helping me to really ENJOY and have FUN playing my guitar. He's always open for my questions and "wants." If there's a song I want to learn but I think it might be too difficult for me, he gladly takes the time to arrange it so that I can learn it. Dan is very positive, upbeat, calm, and patient. Dan is a natural teacher. He has a wonderful rapport with my 8 yo who has never taken music lessons before. He is encouraging in a way that is effective for total newbies. He doesn’t seem to get frustrated with a 8 yo who doesn’t want to be on a zoom call, which is a talent I admire. My kid has developed a lot more than I thought was possible in two weeks. It’s like watching someone learn a new language and seeing them want to use that skill more and more. I’m very happy we chose Dan.

Daniel is a patient fun teacher! My daughter is 7 and asks a lot of questions, Daniel always make time to answer them and gives her encouragement and praise. He is very knowledgable and has given us great advice for the best guitar to purchase. He breaks down each of the lessons in to small chunks which makes it easy for her to remember and practise!

I appreciate that Dan has the flexibility and commitment to take me on as a student. It's easier for me to commit when he can do home-visits for lessons. I'm a beginner and he provides an appropriate level of guidance to push me to learn and prompt me to think "who I want to be" when playing guitar (style, future goals, etc). Daniel Essaf is a great guitar teacher. He is currently working with my 7-year-old and he has been so patient with him and he always meets him where he's at at every lesson!

I was gifted a used acoustic guitar about 18 months ago and knew nothing about the aspects of playing such an instrument. I believe there is a natural tendency for beginning players to turn to YouTube or some other online source to "learn" everything they need to know to play the guitar. Based on my experience I would tell you that the personal lessons I have taken with Daniel at Leaf Music Lessons has dramatically increased my understanding and the nuances involved in playing the guitar correctly as compared to trying to learn via online videos. Daniel clearly understands the time and practice it takes to move from one aspect of playing to the next. He tailors my lessons based on my improving skills, questions, and interests I have. As one might imagine the last year has imposed the need to hold our lessons remotely. Daniel has been able to pivot to address the changing method of interacting with me. He has a video setup that allows us not only to see and communicate, but to also share closeups and display music on the screen. He also uses a whiteboard to help provide further visual instruction.

Daniel is so personable! My daughter loves her lessons. He is knowledgeable and able to demonstrate the technics. He lets her know she needs to practice more, and lets her know he can tell she is practicing more. He always sends an email update after the lesson with things to work on, and always has something positive included, even on an "off" week. He is a very competent guitar teacher, super down to earth, and doesn't put himself above his students. He is just a "normal" guy who loves music and shares his knowledge and love of music. Loves lessons with Daniel. He really explains things to her on her level. She has shown so much improvement since she started lessons with Daniel. He has helped her to “come out of her shell” as well. On Daniel’s suggestion, She has even attempted to enter a talent show at school (unfortunately cancelled due to covid). Dan has been absolutely wonderful to work with! He has been giving guitar lessons to my daughter for about 2 months, and she absolutely loves working with him! My daughter has an intellectual disability, so it hard for her to remain focused and she needs things broken down step by step. He has been incredibly patient with her, has taken the time to break things down for her, and has always been encouraging with her progress. It is apparent that he has been a teacher for over 20 years. He provides updates to me for each lesson about what my daughter should practice.
