About David
I have over 12 years of experience studying the Japanese language, including passing the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level N3 (CEFR Equivalent: B2). I am conversationally fluent in Japanese with 2 years of experience living and working in Japan. As an undergraduate student, I tutored Japanese at St. Peter's University, and I am experienced in teaching elementary Japanese to new learners. I am extremely passionate about the Japanese language and culture and am excited to share it!
While I am not a native speaker of Japanese, I found this to be an advantage when I first began learning. As someone who has gone through the process of learning Japanese with zero knowledge, I can share tips and tricks for understanding the Japanese grammar system from the perspective of a native English speaker. I want to tailor my tutoring experience to the student's individual needs, including emphasizing conversation skills, grammatical concepts, test preparation, learning to read manga, or anything else the student is interested in trying.
