About Joe

Ever since I was in grade school, I have always loved math. While growing up, I always saw most people scared of math. I helped a lot of friends get through classes and they actually understood how I explained it to them.

I have recently helped a young lady get through two college classes where she had previously failed. After she came to me, she made an "A" in one and a "B" in the other.

I am combat veteran and my key phrase has always been, "Communication! Communication! Communication!" You can tell someone something, but if it doesn't make sense, then you have wasted both your and his/her time.

I have an Applied Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering and also a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing with a Minor in Statistics.

Again, I love math and love helping people understand it even more.

I enjoy seeing people have that "Eureka!" moment after I have explained what they didn't understand. One of the main reasons I love math is because the answer is always going to be what it is supposed to be. However, one must know how to find that answer correctly. It's all about the process and repeating it the same way.

I tutored a young lady recently. Before she went to me, she had failed her math class. I turned it around for her and got her an "A" in that class and a "B" in the second class.

About the lesson

Communicate and get to know what the problem is and explain the process the best I can so that the person feels comfortable with it.

I have worked with students that had no idea what they were doing and were very nervous about what they had to do in order to pass the class. I calmed them down and told them to actually take a breath and we'll go through it step-by-step.

Make sure you get someone that explains it in a way that you understand. You can "teach" something to anyone. However, if he/she still doesn't understand it, then it was a waste of time.

Helping the young lady go from flunking and hating math, to where she passed not one class, but two.
