About Derek
Hi my name is Derek. I am a high school student looking to make some money on the side. I do have experience tutoring at a SAT tutoring center. I also have experience teaching as I am a private martial arts instructor and have taught for many years. I have experience in all of high school math, ranging from Algebra 1, to Calculus, to Statistics. I am also very well versed in SAT Math as I scored a 780 on that section. I am very patient and understanding teacher and willing to work with your student to success!
I enjoy helping others understand and connect the dots. There is no better feeling than when you are teaching a student and they really understand and comprehend the material. It is the connection between teacher and student that is most important.
I started teaching by tutoring my friends and my girlfirned. I have also taught karate privately for over four years.
I started higher level math in 7th grade when I took Algebra 1. I have since taken Geometry, Honors Algebra 2/Trig, Honors Precalculus, AP Calculus BC, and AP Statistics. I have averaged an A all throughout my scholastic career.

When I begin to work with a new student, I first assess their learning style. Once I figure out if the student is more computational or conceptual, I tailor my teaching style to the student. We will usually then assess the parts of the process where they are confused and work on completing each problem. I like to teach math not as a conglomeration of numbers, but rather a manipulation of ingredients in a recipe. I will teach students how to dissect questions, organize information, and conduct the proper calculations.
I have worked with students at all skill levels.
