About Erika
I have been a STEM tutor for Columbia University for the past two years. During my time as a student, I worked for multiple departments as a tutor and teaching assistant. This experience allowed me the opportunity to work with many students of different ages and backgrounds. I have worked with high school students on STEM subjects, test prep, and college applications. I have worked with undergraduate students on PreMed coursework, and I have worked with adults returning to school. I have experience tutoring students with ADHD, dyslexia, and extreme test-taking anxiety. All of this experience allows me to come to each student interaction with a level of expertise in my subject matter, but also a level of compassion and care for each new student.
I love being able to help students tackle and overcome challenging concepts. The best feeling as a tutor is when a student feels like they have no idea where to start at the beginning of the session, but at the end they are enabled and equipped to problem-solve on their own.
I began teaching other students in my classes as I was learning myself! I found that helping others learn was a great way to reinforce my own learning, and after I finished my courses, I wanted to continue helping others grow!
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Columbia University with degree in Neuroscience and Behavior, as well as PreMed. I worked in the Psychology department and the Chemistry department as a teaching assistant, and worked for the tutoring center in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biology. I am prepared to tutor chemistry, biology, physics, and math.

I begin by asking about a timeline for the student and their current understanding. For example, some students come the day before an exam and need to catch up. Other students come two weeks before and need help on the final nuances of a subject. Once this is established, going over any practice materials to get a feel for how the student will be tested and to see what the teacher is emphasizing are the best places to start!
I have worked with high school students, college students, and post-bac students. I have also had experience working with high acheiving students as well as students with ADHD and dyslexia.
Some tutors are really knowledgable in their field, but they may not be the right fit for you! Make sure the tutor you end up hiring listens to your needs, answers all of your questions, and is able to address gaps in your learning. A tutor should be able to identify areas where you need to go back and learn foundational material before rushing forward into advanced material.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should start by trying to think of what they needs help with. For example, some students need help learning concepts, some students need study strategies to be able to learn large amounts of information quickliy, and other students hire tutors just to help keep motivated. Students should always look back at past exams and graded homework to see where they can improve and make sure that those are the areas of focus in the tutoring sessions.

She is passionate about helping students succeed. She can break down problems in a very logical way and really makes sure that you understand before moving on. Erika is amazing!
Erika is the only tutor I've had who made me feel like I was smart enough. She validated that what I was learning was not easy, and broke it down enough to help me truly understand the material I was expected to master. Her tutoring services increased my test performance by last least 75% in efficacy. I am so grateful she was my tutor for spring semester and I've never met another as caring, passionate, smart, yet helpful like her! She truly was the best one on campus.
Erika was my tutor for 3 semesters and she helped me tackle (and gain confidence in) Gen Chem, O Chem, and Biology!
Erika has the unique ability to make every topic feel approachable. She has helped me conquer so many concepts that seemed overwhelming to me at first.
Her sense of humor makes the learning environment positive and relaxed. She is an organized person with an excellent work ethic so she manages time very well. In addition to her skill with scientific coursework, Erika is a talented advisor when it comes to planning balanced schedules for studying.
I've had too many tutors who are very smart but unable to effectively convey their understanding to others, but Erika does it all. She is rare in that she is an equally gifted learner as she is a teacher. She has a deep, strong understanding of the material AND she communicates that understanding expertly. Cannot recommend highly enough!
I have worked with Erika for a year regarding guidance with college level General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. She is, hands down, the best tutor I have encountered, EVER. Erika understands the content in such a deep level that she can approach brand new material with confidence and ease. Her level of comprehension expands to even developing novel questions to test her students’ understanding of the topic. Her mind works wonders, it’s like magic! Erika is wonderful and full of sunshine and I would immediately hire her as a tutor if I had a chance!
Erika is a wonderful tutor. She is very approachable and knows how to present the material to each student properly.
I highly recommend her! BTW- She is also an extremely nice person.Erika doesn't just show you how to do something, she makes sure you understand what you're doing and has creative ways of explaining the trickiest material.
