We love helping students realize that they know more than they think. By identifying knowledge gaps, we help students reach their goals. Be empowered to thrive!

I enjoy helping students build their academic confidence. I help students learn and practice the basic skills to learn better. There is nothing more powerful to me than watching a student finally realize they can do this.

I volunteered to tutor math in college and continued tutoring until I found my way into alternative teaching. I don't like classroom-style teaching, so tutoring was always a better fit. Now I help high school students get to college and I help college students finish their degrees.

The topic of my dissertation for my PhD was 'Predictors of Student Success'. I have a Master's in International Education, I hold teaching certifications in ESL, English (6-12), Social Studies (6-12), and I have taught a wide variety of English, ESL, Math, and ACT Prep courses both in and out of school. I also work with students on strategies for studying, testing, time-management, and organization.

About the lesson

The initial free consultation allows me to learn more about the student and his/her needs. I also assess the student in the subject of concern through their past tests/quizzes in class and/or an assessment of my selection. I then outline some goals I would like to help the student achieve. Then the student and I determine if we think we can work on these goals together and if so, how frequently we would like to meet.

I have worked with students from many different countries, with many different language, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. I have worked with students of varying abilities and disabilities, socio-economic status, and parent level of education.

Make sure you are comfortable asking the tutor to clarify or explain something differently. If the tutor simply slows down or repeats the same information, find a new tutor.

I charge $50/hour. Sessions are generally 1 hour, to ensure students stay focused, but this can be adapted based on student needs.
