About Oliver
Hey! I am Oliver, and I am a junior at Columbia University, studying chemical engineering. I have had prior tutoring experience in the past, particularly during high school while attending the High School for Math, Science, and Engineering at CCNY.
I truly value the importance of this job, and think every student learns differently. Over the years of helping fellow classmates and younger students, I have learnt how to try different techniques to help students work out the solutions themselves. Sometimes, students will request tutors to help them answer a few remaining questions from class, other times students want to review the material in general terms. Either way, I work hard to accomodate to the student's preferred method of learning.
The services I offer include:
Mathematics: elementary, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus (some higher level topics can be covered as well upon request)
Chemistry: high school level, college-level general chemistry (full year), and chemistry lab
Spanish: Elementary level, Intermediate level, Advanced level, Advanced College level
Social Studies: Global history
Test Prep: SHSAT, NYS Regents Exams, AP Global History, AP Chemistry, SAT II Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, SAT II Mathematics Levels I/II, SAT II Spanish
What I most enjoy about tutoring is the sense of accomplishment whenever I am able to help a student do better in class or achieve a better score than they thought possible. Personally, I have benefited from tutoring, and it is an incredible feeling to be able to help other students like I once was. Unlocking that potential within students is my favorite part of the job!
