About Umme Salma

With 5+ years of experience in teaching, a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a diploma in Accounting, I am highly qualified to help you excel in your next challenge. I offer guided lessons with practice exercises and small projects, or one-on-one time for you to ask questions and work on problems, or a mix of two. I am happy to discuss and make a plan that is well-suited to your learning.

I enjoy interacting with young, inquisitive minds, answering their questions, working with them until they have overcome their struggles and learning their new ideas. In the 5+ years that I have been teaching, there is no better feeling than the AHA moment, when my student's eyes light up and I can see that my efforts in helping them understand a concept have succeeded. My goal as a teacher is to convince my students to be as passionate about the subject as I am. I will work diligently for hours on each student to achieve this goal.

Soon after I finished high school, my friend from grade 9 requested me to help her with Calculus a few times each week. In university, I worked as a teaching assistant for several computer science and math courses for 4 years. In this role, I worked one-on-one with several students to answer their questions, help them with their projects and tests. I also was responsible for leading tutorials and designing projects so I will use my experience in that to create guided lessons for you.

- Bachelor's in Computer Science (Minor: Business), McMaster University, Canada

- Certificate in Accounting, University of Washington, Washington

About the lesson

I spend some time understanding the needs of my student, their questions and their goals. With that information, I will recommend my approach which might include,

- guided lessons, with practice exercises modified to the student's level.

- Q/A session, typically for working through a project, assignment, test, etc.

- a combination of the above.

All types of students! I have had students at varying levels in their learning journeys.

Perfect! Before getting tutored by Umme I was struggling to understand what was going on in my python computer programming class. Since meeting Umme I've started to understand things much better. Ummer takes the time to make sure I really understand the concepts by giving me analogies and examples that are really helpful.
Even though we are dealing with covid, Umme has made online learning very easy by drawing things out for me and knowing how to use the features on zoom well enough so that the learning is more interactive.
I would recommend getting Umme to be your tutor!

Perfect! Umme Salma is a wonderful tutor! I love working with her. She helps me work through code and looking at the logic and math behind it. She is very helpful in showing me how to design code for a large project, which is a skill I lacked and is currently helping me with recursion, which I also had trouble understanding.

I highly recommend her. She's clear and concise and checks in with you if you're not understanding anything during the session. If you're looking for help with Computer Science, please hire her! :D

Theo

She is very knowledgeable and can explain complex topics in a way that breaks them down into smaller problems. This makes it easier to tackle assignments and tasks but also lets you learn as you go.

Suhira is awesome! She has been super helpful and always has clear explanations with prepared problems and exercises. I've had a couple tutors in the past through my university but none took the time and consideration that Suhira does. She's the best!

Zahra

I needed a python tutoring for one of my GIS classes. I had no prior experience with coding but Umme Salma did not let me down. The beginning sessions comprised of learning about the basics of programming and python. Following, every very once a week we would video call and I would work on practice problems under the guidance of the tutor.

Umme Salma helps my son weekly with mathematics, algebra and geometry. She's extremely patient, knowledgeable and always makes sure her student understands the concepts well. I was worried that with remote learning in the pandemic, he would fall behind but that did not happen at all. My son has grown to enjoy the subject and has even moved beyond what he's learning in school. He's excited for his session with her each week. I am so thankful for her as she takes time out of her schedule to help me. I would definitely recommend hiring her!
