About Grace
I have over eight years of tutoring experience in both informal and formal settings, working with students of different ages, grade levels, and learning needs. In this time, I have developed not only strong teaching skills but also a genuine passion for helping students build confidence in their abilities. I enjoy guiding learners through new concepts in a way that feels approachable and meaningful. One of my core teaching strategies is using visual representations to break down problems into smaller, more manageable steps. By showing students how to visualize information, I help them develop problem-solving skills they can transfer to different subjects and real-life situations.
My experience extends beyond academic instruction. I have also worked closely with students who present with behavioral and learning challenges, including OCD, ADHD, and ASD. Supporting these students has taught me the importance of patience, flexibility, and individualized instruction. For example, I have adapted lesson pacing, created step-by-step guides, and incorporated hands-on activities to keep students engaged while ensuring they feel supported and successful. These experiences have allowed me to cultivate a compassionate and student-centered approach that recognizes each learner’s unique strengths and challenges.
What continues to motivate me as an educator is seeing the growth and progress that comes from consistency and encouragement. Whether it is a student mastering a new math skill, overcoming a reading challenge, or learning strategies to stay focused, I take pride in creating a supportive environment where each learner can thrive. I believe that all students, regardless of their starting point, are capable of success when given the right tools and encouragement, and I am committed to helping them reach that potential.

In a typical tutoring session, I always cater my approach to the specific needs of my students. During the very first meeting, I conduct a diagnostic session, which lasts about an hour. This allows me to assess their current understanding, identify strengths, and pinpoint areas where they may need additional support. From this initial evaluation, I design a personalized plan that addresses both immediate challenges and long term skill development.
For example, if a student is struggling with fraction problems, I incorporate visual representations such as fraction bars, number lines, and diagrams to make abstract ideas more concrete. I then guide the student through multiple examples, gradually increasing the complexity of the problems to build confidence and mastery. Along with step by step explanations, I provide plenty of practice opportunities and present the concept in different scenarios. This ensures students can apply what they have learned in a variety of contexts, particularly when preparing for upcoming tests.
When there is a specific concept or skill area that requires targeted support, I create a thorough and systematic process to address it. I break the concept down into smaller, manageable steps and use repetition, visual aids, and guided practice to reinforce understanding. My goal is to help students transfer these steps into long term memory so they can confidently recall and apply the strategies independently. By combining diagnostic assessment, personalized instruction, and intentional reinforcement, I help students strengthen their foundational knowledge and develop the problem solving skills they need for future success.

Details
Hi there, thank you for viewing the posting! I only charge a small $5 travel fee if the drive is more than ten minutes from my location. However, it would be a $15 increase if the drive is more than 30 minutes because the drive there and back can take up to more than one hour. I currently reside in Fraser Heights, so if you are nearby, there may be no additional fee at all. I am happy to discuss options that work best for your family and schedule.
