About Melanie
I come from a family of artists. I grew up with art and music and have been painting all my life. My work has been collected, written about, published and used in films. I have been teaching children and adults painting and drawing for the past 6 years. I recently wrote my dissertation on Aesthetic education and the benefits it has on children's development. I am passionate about art and education and consider myself a teaching artist and a citizen scholar. I feel a responsibility to share my love for art, expression and social justice to others. The highest degreee I have is an EdD in Curriculum and Instruction. I received my BFA from Parsons School of Design in NYC. I love teaching people how to express themselves in art visually and how to develop their own style.
I got started teaching people how to paint because they liked my paintings and wanted to learn how to paint with their own style.

I first find out where they are in their skill set. Then I find out what their vision is in where they want to go in their art. Then I teach them about other artists like them. And then we work together to develop their styles.

Melanie is such a great teacher and relates so well with her students no matter what their level of learning is. She is patience and interested in all her students and guides them gently with interesting materials and her knowledge of the arts is phenomenal. She brings art to life and shows us that it is more than just talent that shapes an art piece. I’ve watched her in a teaching setting with special ed children and as a student of hers myself. I have benefited from both. She is a remarkable teacher who cares about students and helps all students feel accomplished.
