About Erin
Erin has been teaching for over a decade and believes that all students, regardless of background, should have access to high quality education with a teacher who believes they can achieve anything they set their minds to. In lessons we focus on building the fundamentals of playing with tone work, etudes, solo pieces and ensemble work. I work with students to find what works best for them since everyone is different and I am constantly learning about different ways of teaching and communicating with students and their families. My students have gone on to have successful auditions and performances in competitions, recitals, and college auditions.
I love working with students who are curious and excited about their progress and learning about music.
I started teaching mostly as a favor to a friend in town. She wanted her 6 year old daughter to learn how to play the flute. From then on, I gradually taught more and more until I realized how much I loved teaching when I taught at the USM Summer Youth Band Day Camp.
I have a Masters in Music Performance (2014) from UMass Amherst and a Bachelors in Music Performance (2012) from the University of Southern Maine. I have attended various masterclasses including the Julius Baker Masterclass, ARIA Summer Music Academy, and Le Domaine Forget.

The first lesson is always an evaluation of where the student is at with their abilities. I ask students to come prepared to their first lesson with a piece they are working on (a band piece, solo piece, or something they've been playing for fun) and any books they own/have worked on in the past. Through seeing what they've done, what they enjoy playing/listening to, and by talking to them about their goals, I am able to easily pinpoint reasonable goals for the year ahead.
I have worked with all types! I work with students age 3 and up (depending on the instrument). It's never too late to start learning! Whether you're taking lessons to have successful auditions or just to have fun, I enjoy working with everyone.
I also have experience teaching students with special needs such as Asbergers, Autism, Down Syndrome, Williams Syndrome, and physical disabilities.
Recently one of my high school students placed 2nd in her division in a competition at an area Music Academy!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Is this something that I could solve on my own with a little practice?
Have I practiced enough?
Have I really thought about what makes this passage difficult?
