About Curt

I want to have excellent communication with prospective piano students! Please tell me about your interest at (concealed information) You will need to share your telephone number and email, so I will be able to send you a proposed lesson agreement and detailed information about me.

I teach students private music lessons at my Cornelia, GA 30531 home studio each Monday through Wednesdays between 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Home school students or adults may wish to take between 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. More times are available especially during the summer months.

Excellent care, patience and encouragement is given during weekly music lessons to spark musical expression and confidence. The piano or voice lessons guide individuals to joyfully rehearse and perform music for themselves and others. Music theory and scales are taught so music reading comes naturally and at a logical progression. The music lesssons are tailored based on each individual's strengths and preferences. Music students are encouraged to request or find music they are interested in performing!

I have a Bachelors and a Master degree in Music and Music Education.

I enjoy seeing the pride from students that master presenting their music! I have been teaching private music lessons in our home studio since 2007. Music is a vehicle of beautiful self-expression which is a joy to learn and to teach.

I have a passon to hear others succeed and enjoy making music.

From 9 to 16 years of age, private piano lessons were taken from Mrs. Lamb, a kind, mature, open-minded teacher. She taught with excellence classical pieces, popular music, improvisation, arpeggios, scales, music theory and hymn playing. While I was given classical piano repertoire, I was encouraged by parents and teacher to experiment with sacred music, popular music, Broadway, jazz, rock, improvisation, composition and the myriad of other styles of music which were also in my environment.

In my home churches in Atlanta and Stone Mountain, it was a joy to participate in children's and youth choirs. In high school, I participated in musical drama, chorus, and played tuba in the band. I learned to play ukulele, guitar and recorder. As a high school senior, it was my honor to lead the high school as the Drum Major and conduct instrumental pieces during concert season. I met Sabrina, my bride, in high school. We made beautiful music together in band, and we still sing together today! She has been my partner in music and ministry since we married in 1977. While earning a Bachelor's of Music in 1978, at Mercer University in Atlanta, private voice, piano, cello, clarinet, guitar, ear training, music theory, composition and drama was taken. All-State College Choir was an grand musical experience each of the four years of college. At Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, a Masters in Music was received in 1980. Piano, handbells, hymnology, private voice and private organ lessons were taken. The tuba was played in the Seminary Wind Ensemble.

From 1980 to 1997, two churches were served full time as a Minister of Music and Youth. For the last 30 plus years, I have enjoyed playing and singing a diverse array of classical, sacred, contemporary, Broadway, gospel, rock, jazz and popular styles of music. Music has been regularly presented for weekly worship services, weddings, funerals, revivals and receptions. Since the Fall of 2007, I have taught private piano and voice in our home studio named "Northeast Georgia Music Studio." Previously, I taught high school students music at Tallulah Falls School from the Fall of 2009 to May, 2019. Since 1999, as a part-time minister of music, I enjoy teaching adults, youth and children weekly at Clarkesville Baptist Church. Teaching from a holistic, broad perspective, a passion for various styles of music utilizing music theory, improvisation and even composition is utilized. I have grown as a musician by participation in Piedmont College music courses, the Chorale, and attending concerts. A Master's in Music Education Certification was achieved at Piedmont. Through regular weekly lessons, students gradually uncover skills and insights that build towards a much wider artistic appreciation and musical experiences. I gladly utilize styles and pieces of music which interest each.

Please consider the following agreement we would make for music lessons.

Student Expectations

The student is expected to practice regularly. For maximum benefit, the student should devote appropriate daily practice times as prescribed by the instructor. A lesson assignment notebook will be kept to list musical selections, helpful notes and if needed, recommended daily practice times. The student is expected to show up on time for each lesson prepared with all learning materials, including notebook and assigned music materials. The student will be encouraged and is expected to be an active participant and enjoy the lesson, asking questions, listening to music samples and reading new and motivating music.

The instructor is a member of the Georgia Music Educators Association. Recitals or festivals may be scheduled for the student's participation. Other opportunities for public performance may be offered by the teacher or requested by parents or the student, such as a recital or church worship service.

Lessons

Lesson times are scheduled at the mutual agreement of teacher and student, subject to the availability of open lesson times. The lesson time assigned to a student is reserved for that student every week. Students are not to attend lessons when they are ill. A call should be made as soon as possible when a student must be absent and cancel a lesson. The student or parents may take the responsibility to trade lesson times with another student or reschedule the lesson. Upon request, a list of parent's names, phone numbers, emails and scheduled times may be available for trading lesson times. Students who do not show up or call to cancel their scheduled lessons will not be offered a credit for the missed lesson. Lessons missed as a result of the instructor's cancellation will receive a credit and may be made up at a convenient time for all. If the instructor receives a message 24 hours prior to a lesson, from a parent or student requesting that a lesson be canceled or rescheduled, a credit may be given for that missed lesson. In other words, lessons not attended or canceled without a 24 hour prior notification will pay for that lesson, except in cases of emergency. Please always confirm the teacher received the message prior to the lesson. If the teacher does not soon respond to canceling or rescheduling by email, within 48 hours of the lesson, please call and leave a message or text to his phone.

Lessons are given on a "one to one" basis. Parents are welcome (and encouraged) to sit and listen in the den, the adjoining waiting room, during lessons, to allow student to learn in a student-teacher environment. Occasionally parents will be asked to sit in on the lesson, to hear expectations of practice techniques and especially to help a new student become comfortable with the new surroundings and lessons. Students should come inside the house and be seated in the den prior to lesson time. A student should be brought no more than ten minutes early, unless waiting on a sibling also taking music lessons.

Always expect to attend a weekly lesson unless the lesson is cancelled previously. The lesson schedule does not follow the school calendar and may meet on school holidays and continue during the summer. Alternative lesson day and times may be available during the summer. Lessons will not normally be held on the following days: New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. In case of inclement weather, please call the teacher's cell phone to check on road conditions at the studio or to cancel a lesson. Calendar changes and reminders will be announced by e-mail or by telephone. Students or their parents are responsible for coming to lessons as scheduled, performing in events for which they are scheduled and checking e-mails for correspondence.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
As a prospective student, please ask yourself, "Am I willing to make a long-term committment to practice daily so I may enhance my skills and abilities?" "Am I willing to share my beautiful gift of music with others to bring them joy?"
