About Meg
Please visit my web page on the website, meg.musicteachershelper.com, or Crystal Creek Music Studio. In addition to private piano and harp lessons, I teach 5-piano ensemble playing. I also encourage students to compose original music and I help them to transcribe and/or arrange music if they show an interest. I am a nationally certified member of the Lake Washington chapter of the Music Teachers National Association. I am also certified with The WPPInstitute in piano performance and pedagogy. I am a commissioned composer for both the Washington State Music Teachers Association and the American Harp Society. I also perform with "Armonioso", a 5-piano team.
I enjoy my students for their unique personalities. I enjoy passing on the gift and love of music. I especially enjoy playing music with others. I accompany my students during their lessons to help train their ears to hear nuance, understand harmony, to feel pulse, and to grow in their discernment of distinct tonalities and sound colors. I help my students to develop a secure knowledge of note reading, a strong sense of pulse and rhythm, and a deeper understanding of the elements of music theory through practical application. I have been teaching for 35 years in the greater Seattle area. I have also performed on harp, piano, and flute in various ensembles for a variety of events including the Seattle Folk Life Festival Waltz night with 500 dancers in attendance.
I joined the Snohomish chapter of the Washington State Music Teachers Association about 35 years ago as a piano teacher.

I have worked with piano and harp students at beginner through advanced levels.
It's important to interview several teachers before making a final decision. Students can choose the teacher who best fits their personality and learning style. They can also see a variety of studio settings and choose where they would feel most comfortable on a weekly basis.
I am the program chair person for a Young Composers Recital held annually to promote creativity in students. Students are honored by giving a public performance of their original works. Their work is published in a book and given to them as a souvenir of their participation.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Find out what is expected in regards to practice time, lesson attendance, tuition. Also, inquire about performance opportunities and whether or not it is required. Ask about ensemble opportunities. Especially consider the commitment of practicing at least 30 mintues every day. Progress happens with daily practice. Taking private lessons is a partnership between student, teacher, and parents.

Perfect! My experience with Meg as a piano instructor has been fabulous. Right from the start Meg made me feel comfortable with the knowledge that I did have and is helping me to build on that knowledge to take my abilities to higher levels. During our interview she really listened to my goals and desires. Through each lesson, she learns more about what I do and do not know; then gently guides me to either learn or re-learn what I need to know. A whole new world is opening up to me and it is exciting! As an adult student, with prior lessons as a child, I knew that there would be skills that I needed to learn in a different way from that which I was originally taught. Meg is patient with this process. She helps me to really “feel” the difference between mechanically playing keys on a keyboard in a technically correct way, versus hearing those same keys played in a lovely or lively piece of music with enhanced knowledge and skill. Meg has a deep and complex understanding of music theory and can play in multiple styles. No doubt this ability to embrace the nuances of different types of music throughout musical history is serving her well as she understands not only what is happening with a piece of music but also why. She can then incorporate and enhance any textual lesson appropriate to the student’s level of knowledge. Executing that skill would be challenging under any circumstances, however my lessons with Meg have been over Zoom! What a thrill it is for me to have access to such a spectacular instructor all in the comfort of my own home.

Meg is an excellent piano teacher. She cares about each student's interest and stage and considers what plan and path is best for their learning and development. She uses the WPPI program which helps our son to "taste" and "feel" and enjoy the dynamics of piano playing. We really like Meg and highly recommend her.
Meg has been my son's piano teacher since he started piano at age eight. He is now 16 and still getting weekly lessons. Meg's style is consistent. How many 16 year old boys love piano lessons? Mine does, and he practices at home without prompting. Meg's style has helped him achieve a solid foundation. Highly recommend her.
Meg is very patient and kind. She works through counting beats and rhythms with the student. She focuses on hand and arm positions to make sure there is good playing technique. I think Samyra has progressed at a very good pace under Meg's instruction.
One of the best teachers I've had, not only helped prepared me to play piano, but helped me prepare for life as well :) I'm glad I had the chance to take lessons from her and if I had the time, I would continue to be a student.
I have known Meg Mann for 28 years- first meeting her at Prosser piano store where she was teaching- she played piano for my wedding in 1993 and she did a superb job!! Playing Mozart Sonata K545 and many other well loved piano repertoire for weddings!! She accompanied me as a singer several times throughout the years - and I love working with her musically as her expertise comes out in all performances! We have been colleagues for years and gone to several music teacher meetings and conferences together!! What a wonderful teacher she is - always updating her skills and taking courses to improve her teaching as the "Well prepared pianist"" and teacher!🎹- Jennie Holland
