About Samantha
I am a recent graduate of Smith College, where I graduated with a 3.96 GPA in Government and Economics—though I attained mastery in many subjects.
I wrote an award-winning honors thesis and juggled internships and student government, as well.
More importantly, I have a deep love of learning and a passion for teaching that I am bringing to a PhD program next year. I also have a beloved little sister who I have tutored for years in subjects ranging from pre-calculus to civics to art history.

Lessons should start from a place of understanding and empathy. I want to understand problem areas, identify gaps in confidence, and get know the student’s strengths and areas for improvement. After this initial diagnostic, I will create tailored lesson plans and we’ll do practice problems together.
For example, if the student struggled with sentence structure and grammar, we would work through a series of examples together. At first, I would model the exercise. Then slowly, the student will grow more independence and show me (while narrating verbally their process) the skills.
They would then be assigned brief homework. Never busy work! These assignments will be based in real-world, practical examples. I will review the assignment in advance of our next session, and then we will go over areas of improvement together in the first part of our next session.
This model has always worked very well for my students, and leaves them with the view that tutoring is not punishment but rather the chance to grow understanding.
