About Asia
I specialize in vocal performance for musical theatre. We will take a song from beginning to end, learning good vocal technique along the way, as well as blocking and character development. I also teach songwriting classes in groups and one on one. I have been a singer and involved with theatre for over 25 years, and have recorded two albums under the name Many Sparrows. I have served as the vocal instructor at the Center for Home Education in Watauga for one year, where I also teach a songwriting class.
I love watching students progress, and the little lightbulb moments along the way, when they suddenly "get" something, or do something they couldn't do before!
I grew up in theatre and performed in musicals in college, and have performed as a singer on multiple worship teams and album projects. I have taken private lessons myself, as we never stop learning, and currently teach voice lessons at the Cottage Theatre in Watauga.

I start by evaluating where they are with their breathing, posture, understanding of pitch and other basics. Then I get them singing right away so I can hear their placement, diction, breath control, what issues they may be having. We pick a song that they like and are familiar with, and run through it to see what areas we need to work on. I also like to prepare people for auditions, musical theatre, etc., which involves not only focusing on voice but understanding the emotion and meaning of the song, acting and body movement.
