About Charlotte
Songwriting can feel intimidating, but I believe everyone has a story worth telling.
As a professional singer-songwriter, I’ve spent more than a decade writing, recording, releasing, and performing original music across the United States. My songs have earned recognition through competitions including the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Competition and the Rose Garden Coffeehouse Songwriting Competition, but more importantly, I’ve spent years learning how to turn real-life experiences into songs that connect with audiences.
Whether you’re writing your very first song or looking to strengthen your lyrics, melodies, storytelling, or performance skills, I strive to create a supportive, collaborative environment tailored to your goals. My approach combines creativity with practical tools and feedback, helping students develop both confidence and their unique artistic voice.
There is no single “right” way to write a song. My goal is to help you discover what works for you.
Teaching has been a natural extension of my work as a performer and songwriter. Throughout my career, I’ve found myself mentoring younger artists, leading workshops, helping friends develop songs, and answering questions about songwriting, performance, and navigating the music industry.
I love helping people find the confidence to share their stories through music, and teaching allows me to combine my passion for songwriting with my love of connecting with others.
I have been writing songs for over 15 years and performing professionally throughout the United States for more than a decade. I hold a degree in Theatre from Northwestern University, with minors in Musical Theatre, Business, and Marketing. When at Northwestern, I was mentored by a number of musical theatre songwriters as a part of a writing program.
As a songwriter and performer, I have released multiple EPs and full-length albums, completed several national tours, and have been recognized through programs and competitions including the Johnny Mercer Foundation Songwriters Project (where I was mentored by Craig Carenlia, Lindy Robbins, and Andrew Lippa), the Rose Garden Coffeehouse Songwriting Competition, and the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Competition.

Every student comes in with different goals, so our first lesson is usually focused on getting to know each other and understanding what you’re hoping to accomplish. Some students want to write their first song, while others are looking to strengthen their lyrics, melodies, storytelling, or performance skills.
From there, I tailor lessons to your goals. Sessions may include songwriting exercises, lyric feedback, song analysis, editing existing material, brainstorming new ideas, or discussing techniques used by professional songwriters. My goal is always to help students develop their own voice rather than write songs that sound like mine.
I’ve worked with students of various ages and experience levels, from complete beginners writing their first song to experienced musicians looking to strengthen their songwriting skills.
Whether you sing, play an instrument, write lyrics, or simply have stories you’d like to turn into songs, I enjoy helping students meet themselves where they are and grow from there.
Look for a teacher whose approach aligns with your goals. Some teachers focus heavily on music theory, others on commercial songwriting, performance, recording, or storytelling.
The most important thing is finding someone who helps you develop your own voice rather than trying to turn you into a copy of themselves. A good teacher should challenge you, encourage you, and create an environment where you’re comfortable taking creative risks.
One of the highlights of the past year was being selected as a finalist in the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Competition. Spending a weekend surrounded by talented songwriters from across the country was both inspiring and energizing. More than the competition itself, I loved the opportunity to connect with other artists, share music, and be reminded of the many different ways people tell meaningful stories through song.

I offer both virtual and in-person lessons (when available). Standard lesson rates are:
• 60-minute lesson: $85
• 90-minute lesson: $110
