About Christy
Are you in search of an experienced and compassionate tutor with a proven track record? If so, I am the one for you. I have been helping students meet their potentials on both the SAT and ACT for many years. I am well-prepared to assist students on both the new digital SAT and the ACT. If you are interested in preparing for other standardized tests, such as the CLT or GED, I can help with those as well.
I have an extensive background in education including over 30 years teaching high school and over 20 years of tutoring. I have taught all levels of classes, from regular level to Advanced Placement and AICE. I have conducted after school SAT/ACT prep classes for my former school and for various sports booster clubs that wanted to provide tutoring for their athletes. An honor of which I am most proud is being selected as teacher of the year for my high school several years ago.
Most of the students I have tutored have been local and have been referred to me through word of mouth. Now that I am retired, I have expanded my services, and using Tutor.com which I used during the Pandemic.
I enjoy tutoring because I get to work with students on a one-to-one basis, which allows me to get to know each of my students' strengths and weaknesses very quickly. Thus, I am able to individualize my lessons in order to meet each student's specific needs. It is very rewarding for me to have the opportunity to work with students who come from different backgrounds and who perform at different ability levels. Furthermore, unlike my regular classroom experience, both my students and I get to see immediate results as we work together toward a common goal-test success.
One of the things I understand well about high school students is that they are very busy and often over-extended. As such, I try to be very flexible with the students that I tutor. I am very understanding when a student needs to cancel or reschedule at the last minute because he gets called in to work, has an unexpected school assignment to complete, or his coach changes practice time. Therefore, I don't charge the student for a last- minute cancellation as do most SAT/ACT tutors. My experience has taught me that to do so only creates stress for the student and his family.
As for experience, I have worked with students from several counties in Florida as well as students from out-of-state. Not only have I helped students improve their SAT/ACT scores, but I have also helped them build self-confidence and reduce test-taking anxiety.
A couple of my success stories include helping one student improve his overall SAT score over 200 points and helping another student improve his ACT score over 10 points. I would like to add you to my success stories!
I come from a long line of educators who have always valued education. Upon graduating from college, I decided that I too wanted to share my talents with future generations, so I returned to school to complete my master's degree in teaching.

First, I like to learn a little bit about the student: activities, sports, favorite class, job, academic strengths and weaknesses. Next, I ask the student to explain his/her present approach to taking standardized tests. I then discuss some of the "ins and outs" of the SAT/ACT, etc. (which-ever applies); Next, I teach the student skills and techniques that will help him/her meet his/her potential on the SAT/ACT, etc. Then I assign the student untimed practice tests to take on his/her own time, and we review them when we meet for tutoring. In the meantime, if needed, I assign specific reading, grammar, writing or math skills practice for the student to complete. When I feel the student is ready, I assign timed practice tests for him/her to complete, and we then review those during our tutoring sessions.
I have worked with all levels of students in all subject areas.; I have worked with gifted students, who missed only a few questions on the SAT/ACT but wanted to try to get a perfect score.; I have also worked with students with learning disabilities, including dyslexia, who wanted to score well enough to qualify for Bright Futures and/or to get into their dream schools. I have worked with students preparing to take the SAT/ACT for the first time and students preparing to take the SAT/ACT after one or two attempts. I have also worked with middle school students who needed high enough SAT scores to qualify for the Duke Talent Search program. In addition, I have worked with adult students who wanted to prepare for the GED.

Perfect! I had an amazing experience working with her! I had a mere week to cram for the SAT and after only meeting up with her 2 times I was able to increase my overall score 50 points. She was lovely to work with and helped me understand a lot of topics while also teaching me tricks that served to be very useful. Would definitely recommend!

I liked how understanding the tutor is, she was very helpful and helped me understand these new concepts!
Mrs. Karwatt provides understandable explanations to answers you get wrong, times you while answering a passage to see your pacing, gives you practice work that will be reviewed, and helpful tips. She focuses more on what you need help in, but practices the other sections so that you do not fall behind.
I had a great experience with SAT SUCCESS. She will help you with anything you need to work on and will help you progress towards being able to handle test-like conditions. There are also many useful tips and tricks she can show you for any section of the test. I personally saw my score go up by 200+ points since I first started tutoring with Mrs. Karwatt. I would strongly recommend her to anyone that needs SAT help.
Christy was extremely helpful with practice problems! My children' scores went up by 100 points!
