About James
I achieved an A in A-level Mathematics and am currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Physics at the University of Southampton. This academic background, combined with my teaching experience, allows me to explain complex ideas clearly and support students at every level of their learning journey. My parents are both teachers so teaching has always been second nature to me. I absolutely loved the years I got to work with refugees and primary school students, I love giving people that clicking feeling when you suddenly understand something that you didn't previously and I aspire to give that feeling to as many people as possible.

My approach to teaching is all about helping students truly understand the ideas behind what they’re learning, not just how to get the right answer. I focus on building a strong foundation by using visual aids, clear explanations, and thoughtful questioning that guide students towards their own understanding. This helps them gain confidence, think independently, and apply their knowledge effectively in any situation. I’ve developed my teaching style through several years of hands-on experience — including a year volunteering to teach maths to refugees and two years working with primary school students. These experiences have taught me how to adapt my lessons to different learning styles, abilities, and how to make even the most challenging topics approachable and engaging. Each lesson typically lasts around 90 minutes, giving students plenty of time to explore topics in depth, practise problem-solving, and learning with real exam-style questions. My lessons are ideal for students preparing for grammar or high school entrance exams, as well as those aiming to achieve top grades in their GCSEs. I prepare every session for the student’s goals and pace, ensuring consistent progress and lasting confidence.
