About Tom
Hi, I'm Tom, MSci (Imperial College London) PGCE (University of Cambridge), a full-time tutor and former Secondary School Teacher of Science with full Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England and Wales.
I am a dedicated and hard-working tutor who strives to provide top quality Maths and Science tutoring (GCSE) and Chemistry tutoring (A-Level) for students from all backgrounds including catering for SEN, EAL and students who receive their schooling from home or from other alternative schooling arrangements.
I stick by my tutees and provide session reminders, whiteboard notes, written and verbal feedback, exams coaching, ongoing email correspondence and general support to help with confidence-building and personal development. My approach is personalised to the individual whilst including tried-and-true strategies to ensure that the essential curriculum content is covered and there are no surprises come exam season.
I offer tutoring for Foundation and Higher level, combined and separates, across AQA, OCR and Pearson Edexcel exam boards. I also provide services to help young people with CV, personal statement, cover letter writing and interview preparation (professional skills) as well as guidance on organisation, revision strategies and time management (study skills).
I aim to create a strong working relationship with each of my students and provide productive and enjoyable sessions that help to achieve goals and create a positive outlook to those next steps, whether they be sixth form, university, apprenticeships, other qualifications or transition into a job.

Studying outside of school can often be daunting for students and parents/carers/guardians alike. How can we help young learners to study in an efficient and effective way which is also manageable and sustainable? I aim to help by boosting subject knowledge, confidence and comfortability with the routines of studying, prioritising individual needs so that study time is put to best use.
I make use of an interactive whiteboard setup along with helpful slides, diagrams and other material to describe and explain concepts in the same way as would be done if the student were in the school classroom. I provide resources to aid in tuition delivery and tailor these to students’ preferred studying habits. My approach is flexible and I focus on interacting at the right level and in the right manner with the learner to allow for helpful and positive communication from the start with lessons planned and tailored to specific needs. I will also use my extensive knowledge of the national curriculum, advice from exam boards and my own experience to ensure that the learner receives up-to-date and relevant information to avoid surprises during exams.

Tom tutored my son for a year and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a good GCSE tutor. He was excellent, very organised and approachable and my son got on well with him and found his lessons clear, understandable and enjoyable.
Tom also sent followup notes via email summarising the topics covered in each lesson with diagrams and mnemonic's etc which were very helpful for my son and for me to see the progress being made.
My son is dyslexic, on the autistic spectrum and has ADHD, and Tom was particularly good at engaging him and making the subject interesting and relevant to modern life and importantly memorable.
Tom teaches all 3 sciences to GCSE, and although our primary focus was Biology, he was also happy to cover any topics my son asked him for support in Chemistry and Physics as well which was also very much appreciated.
Overall we were very happy with Tom’s tutoring, and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a GCSE tutor.Tom helped tutor me in Maths & all 3 sciences during the lead up to both my GCSE & A-Level exam periods. He has a very patient approach and is able to adapt his teaching style and explanations accordingly if you are struggling to understand. With his help I felt less worried about my exams and was able to achieve above my predicted grades. I highly recommend!
Tom tutored my daughter for GSCE sciences. Initially she was a reluctant STEM student but with Tom’s support and guidance she built up her confidence and started to enjoy it more. Going into her GSCE exams she felt prepared by going through past papers with Tom. The flash cards Tom developed also really helped by breaking down subject areas. I have recommended Tom to my friends to help their children and both my daughter are grateful to Tom for his expertise and help over the last year.
