About Mike
I’m Mike — a QTS-qualified primary teacher (ages 3–11) with a First-Class BA (Hons) in Primary Education, and I’m fully DBS checked. I’ve taught across Nursery to Year 6, with much of my experience focused on targeted intervention, after-school tutoring, and 1:1 and small-group support. I adapt lessons to suit each child’s pace and learning style, helping them build strong foundations in reading, writing, spelling and spoken English. Alongside primary teaching, I’ve also worked in a secondary SEND setting, strengthening my ability to explain clearly, break learning into manageable steps, and support confidence and focus. I’m autism-informed and wellbeing-aware, and I’m known for creating a calm, supportive environment with personalised goals and encouraging feedback. I also hold TEFL qualifications, including Teaching English to Young Learners, which supports structured language teaching, clear modelling, and confidence-building speaking and listening activities.

Relaxed, friendly 1-to-1 primary tutoring tailored to your child. I adapt each session to their pace, goals and learning style, so they feel comfortable and make steady progress. I create a calm, no-pressure space where children can have a go, make mistakes safely, and build confidence. I’m a QTS-qualified primary teacher (ages 3–11) with a First-Class BA (Hons) in Primary Education. I’ve taught mainly in Year 2, with experience supporting children across Reception to Year 6, planning and teaching most weekly lessons and using assessment to set clear next steps. I can support your child across the primary curriculum—including reading and comprehension, writing and spelling, speaking & listening, and maths confidence—as well as homework help and targeted catch-up where needed. I also have SEND experience (including autism-informed, wellbeing-aware support) and ESOL/TEFL experience, so I’m confident adapting sessions with extra structure, clear steps, and practical feedback to help every child feel successful. English — I have delivered targeted English interventions and plenty of 1:1 reading support to build fluency, comprehension and writing confidence. I also have ESOL/TEFL experience, so I’m strong on speaking, listening, pronunciation and accuracy. Maths — I’ve supported Maths in both primary and SEND settings, including small-group Maths support and Maths interventions, adapting tasks and explanations to help pupils close gaps and feel confident. I use assessment and clear next steps to keep progress steady. Early Years — I worked as a Nursery Practitioner, supporting early development in communication & language, physical development, and planning play-based and adult-led activities aligned to early learning goals. This experience helps me keep sessions practical, calm and age-appropriate. Science — As a primary teacher I’ve planned and taught the majority of weekly lessons, using observation and assessment to guide next steps across the curriculum. I also have Open University CPD in Biology/Early Development, which supports clear explanations and strong vocabulary teaching. Design and technology — I’ve planned and supported foundation subjects in school and I’m confident guiding children through step-by-step making, evaluating and improving—keeping tasks structured, achievable and creative. History — I’ve supported teaching in History and I also have hands-on history research experience through archive/genealogy work—great for helping children understand sources, vocabulary and “why it mattered.” History is a huge passion of mine. Geography — I’ve planned and supported foundation subjects across primary and can help children build strong place/fieldwork vocabulary, explain human/physical features clearly, and organise answers with simple structures. Art and design — I’ve delivered arts and crafts activities in school and bring a calm, confidence-building approach where pupils can try techniques, make improvements, and feel proud of what they produce. I like to keep these lessons practical. Physical education — I’ve supported PE in school settings and delivered weekly swimming instruction. I’m also trained as a Boxercise instructor and wrote my first-class dissertation on teaching martial arts in primary PE—so I’m strong on safe structure, routines and motivation. Although I can teach this online, meeting in person will be much better. Computing — I’m highly computer literate with web design and digital skills, and I’m confident helping children use technology independently (and troubleshooting calmly when things go wrong). Religious education — I’ve planned and taught the majority of weekly lessons as a primary teacher, including across the wider curriculum, and I’m experienced in creating a respectful, wellbeing-aware space where children can talk through ideas and explain their thinking clearly. I have experience in Anglican and Catholic schools.
