About Molly

Hello! I am a first class Music graduate from Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts where I gained skills in vocal technique, songwriting and performance. Alongside my studies I formed my own backing band and have performed across the country at venues such as Glastonbury Music Festival, and the well renowned Cavern Club, as well as supporting up and coming Jazz singer, Joy Crookes. My teaching experience includes leading a children's choir, teaching music to ages 6 months to 10 years at nursery and after school clubs, and one-to-one vocal coaching.

• developing your own style, helping to make covers your own
• learning how to do backing vocals and harmonies
• songwriting
• preparing you for auditions, performances, recordings and entry exams • basics of piano playing and accompaniment I am fun, friendly, patient and look forward to working with you :)

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I have loved singing for as long as I can remember, and could supposedly hum the Match of the Day theme tune before turning one! We were always encouraged to dance around the kitchen and me and my younger sister were putting on some sort of concert at least once a week. As I grew up, music became my way of expressing myself and my emotions and I soon realised that performing allowed me to be my best self.
  • Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Old school jazz, blues and soul. A compilation of all the greats, such as BB King, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and Nina Simone would do me just fine for days!
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

My experience in teaching so far has shown me that for so many people, confidence is the biggest hurdle. Given that my passion is in performance, I feel that a course in which we are working towards a live performance, preferably in original material as I thoroughly enjoy helping with songwriting too, would be really exciting, challenging and rewarding.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Out of the ones I've tried, violin was pretty tragic! But I genuinely do think 'mastering' singing has a very unique set of challenges. Being the only instrument that is within your body, it can involve some quite abstract concepts and so much of it is mental. Taking control of your mind and the way you think about aspects of the song and the song as a whole has such an impact on the delivery. For me, it's what makes it the most beautiful instrument but I think it also makes it the hardest.
  • What are your keys to success?

Always tell the story. Tap into the emotion of the song, find the meaning for you if it's a cover, and allow yourself to use various techniques to paint the picture. Not only is this, I believe, the most important reason for playing music, it also has the bonus feature of stopping you from overthinking all the small details, most will end up happening naturally. Also, enjoy it. What's the point if it's not fun.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Alicia Keys - She's always been a massive inspiration to me and I would love to pick her brains on how to forge a healthy, sustainable and happy career as a musician. She just seems like she's got it worked out.

Nina Simone - I just think she'd be an amazing person to meet and I would hope she's give us an impromptu performance!

Maverick Sabre - So I can ask him if I can write a song with him and support him on his next tour.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

When I was younger I used to do lots of piano concerts. I had one in a grand concert hall in Bristol and I was mega nervous. My dad took me, along with my younger sister who is still scarred from being dragged to all my various concerts and performances! I remember him saying to me, before the concert started, "Just imagine it's only you and the piano in the room". I remember going on stage, doing my little bow, and looking up and seeing only my dad and sister looking back at me. I still think about that moment when I'm nervous before a gig.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I always ask what else is going on in life! We have a little catch up on general stuff and lots of my students feel like my friends too. I ensure people feel at ease with me, that they feel they can ask any question and the lesson is supposed to be fun.
