About Gayle
As a homeschool mom, I not only taught my own children, I taught classes (and tutored one-on-one) in several academic co-ops, a private school, and held classes in my home. I both enjoy interacting with teens and genuinely enjoy mathematics, whether it be arithmetic, algebra, or geometry. Math is never subjective; a student either has the right answer or he/she has the wrong answer. Math teaches how to use logic, and to think analytically.

I can use the curriculum the student is already using or I can bring one of the ones I have taught previously. Usually I first teach the concept to the student, show 2 to 5 examples using the concept, then I have the student walk me through doing at least three practice problems. We continue working practice problems until I believe the student has learned the concept. Then I assign “homework” or a number of practice problems that the student will work independently. The assignments will consist of a few (about ten or so) practicing the concept that was just taught, along with 20 to 40 problems that review previously taught concepts. This method keeps the previously learned concepts fresh in the students’ short term memory until the student shows proficiency with ease and confidence. Proficiency is evidence that a concept and the steps used to solve problems associated with the concept has transferred into long term memory.

Details
Rate is $18.00 per hour with one hour minimum per session. Students that pay for either a 5 hour or a 10 hour tutoring package, will receive a discounted rate of $75 for 5 hours ($15 an hour) or $120.00 for 10 hours ($12 an hour).
Travel rate - Less than 10 miles is free; 10 - 20 miles is $6.00; 21 - 30 miles is $10.00; 31 - 40 miles is $15.00.
