About Iyona
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies, which gave me a deep understanding of how children grow, learn, and process information at different stages. I went on to teach math and English at the middle and high school level, and I also served as a special education teacher, an experience that sharpened my ability to identify learning gaps quickly and create individualized strategies that actually work.
Beyond the classroom, I’ve tutored family members one-on-one and seen firsthand how much a student can grow when they finally have someone in their corner who truly understands how they learn. I’m patient, encouraging, and direct. I won’t waste your child’s time — every session has a purpose and a plan. My goal is always the same: to help students build real understanding and real confidence, not just get through the homework.

I specialize in working with students in grades 6 through 12 who are struggling to keep up in math and English. As a former special education teacher, I understand that every student learns differently — and I know how to meet them exactly where they are without making them feel behind or defeated.
My sessions are structured but flexible. I start by identifying the specific gaps holding a student back, then build a personalized approach using clear explanations, guided practice, and real encouragement. I don’t just help students complete assignments — I help them actually understand the material so they can build confidence that carries into the classroom.
I have experience creating individualized modifications and accommodations, which means I’m especially effective with students who have learning differences, IEPs, or who simply need more one-on-one attention than a classroom can provide. If your child is struggling, falling behind, or losing confidence in school, I can help turn that around.
