About Kaitlin
I am a former elementary special education teacher from Virginia and recently moved to Illinois. I taught for three years as a substitute and special education teacher assistant. I taught for another five years as a special education teacher. Throughout my teaching career, I had the opportunity to work with students from third to fifth grade possessing various disabilities, such as specific learning disability, intellectual disability, other health impairments, autism spectrum disorder, hearing impairments, visual impairments, orthopedic impairments, and emotional disturbance. These experiences have helped me to foster a warm and welcoming teaching environment. I thrive on my ability to first establish a relationship with each student I work with. Once students are comfortable, then we can focus on areas of need across content areas as well as focusing on other areas of learning that impact academics, such as social/emotional learning.

My lessons during tutoring sessions will consist of engaging teaching methods to help younger students (K-5) better understand and grasp difficult concepts. The use of visuals, models, and manipulatives are a beneficial portion of my lessons to ensure all students are being met at their levels to introduce and reinforce new or previously taught concepts. I am trained in various reading intervention programs (i.e. Sonday, Voyager, etc.) to focus on building foundational reading skills to help students access the general education curriculum across content areas.
