About Elsie
Hello, My name is Elsie. I am currently an undergraduate student at King's College London going into my second year doing French and Philosophy. I did IGCSEs and the IB at Christ's Hospital in West Sussex. I have been a tutor for a 10 and 8-year-old boy and girl over lockdown. I helped them with English language and reading and Maths, whilst speaking French with them. Sadly, they moved back to Paris, so I am no longer with them. I have looked after/babysat children since I was 12, so I am very confident working with children. I have a passion for French and enjoy teaching it. I studied it throughout my school, for my GCSEs and higher level for IB. I think the best way is to learn through immersion. Even at the simple level, I encourage my students to speak with me in French. I love French culture, films, literature, music. I incorporate learning about French culture into my tuition recommending films, books and music. Although I know grammar can be tedious, I try to make my teaching as fun as possible. Since starting my Philosophy degree, I have developed a strong passion for it. I think it is a wonderful subject that encourages reflection and critical thinking, that I believe should be taught to all from a young age. My interests lie in political philosophy and applied ethics. However, having studied the basics I would be confident teaching a range of areas. Being a native English speaker, I am confident in teaching English at all levels. I can help with reading, writing and grammar. I love to read myself and encourage my students to read as much as possible. Regarding my style of teaching, I make my lessons as fun and engaging as possible. I learn the style of learning of my pupils early on and from that find the best way of teaching. Whether they be visual, aural, kinaesthetic or through reading and writing.
