About Vera

I’m fluent in French (C1/C2). I studied BA Classics and French at UCL (First Class Honours) and spent a year at the Université Paris-Sorbonne, and I’m now completing a Master’s in secondary teacher training with a specialisation in French.

I’ve tutored French for many years in Madrid and London, from secondary pupils to adults. As a native Spanish and English speaker, so I know what it’s like to learn French as a second or third language. I also know Latin and Ancient Greek, which gives me a deep understanding of how languages work and can be taught and learned.

About the lesson

Lessons are friendly, structured and adapted to you. I combine conversation, grammar drills and repetition, oral exposition (so you practise full sentences out loud), creative tasks and games, plus flipped learning with short pre-reading before the lesson. For GCSE and A level students, I plan around your exam board’s specification and practise each skill examined: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Adult learners can follow a course book or choose their own goals, whether travel, work or exams. I adapt to every learner, including students with SEN.

My lessons are £55 an hour online and £70 an hour in person. That covers more than the hour we spend together. Before the lessons, I put time into planning material around you, your goals and your course, so every lesson feels made for you. I also keep up with my subjects and any exam board changes, and I’m happy to look over your work before we meet, so we can use our time on the things that will help most. The in-person rate includes my travel and cost to you. Why not book a free intro call and say hello?
