About Mai

Hello! I’m Mai.

I’m a native Japanese speaker from Shizuoka, Japan, currently living in Australia. As a language learner myself (studying English and Spanish!), I know exactly how it feels to face the anxiety and confusion of learning a new language.

That’s why I focus on creating gentle, patient, and beginner-friendly lessons. I want to create a space where you can feel safe to make mistakes!

My Hobbies: Traveling, food, working out, knitting, anime, Judo, and World History.

These lessons are perfect for you if:

You are completely new to Japanese.

You don't know where to start.

You feel nervous about speaking and want to build confidence.

You want to learn practical Japanese phrases for travel.

You want to enjoy learning Japanese at a relaxed pace.

My Approach:
I prioritize practical phrases and real conversation over dry grammar rules. Let's start speaking from day one in a fun and confident way!

About the lesson

About My Lessons

My lessons are conversation-focused and progress slowly and carefully. I mainly use the GENKI textbook, but I also include lots of talk and roleplay activities.

“It’s okay to make mistakes!”
I create a relaxed and supportive environment, so beginners can feel comfortable and confident.

For Beginners

Hiragana & Katakana

Self-introduction

Simple phrases for daily conversation

Basic grammar

Roleplay for different situations

→ By the end, you’ll be able to greet people in Japanese and talk about yourself in simple sentences.

For Intermediate Learners

Balanced practice of conversation + grammar

Pronunciation guidance

Practice understanding anime and movies without subtitles

→ You’ll be able to speak more naturally and express yourself confidently.

For Advanced Learners

Reading news articles and essays

Business Japanese & keigo (polite language)

Native-like expressions and pronunciation

→ You’ll be able to express your opinions fluently and naturally in Japanese.

About Me
My hobbies include going to the gym, watching anime, practicing judo, learning history, and enjoying good food. I’m currently studying IT as well

I’d love to hear about your hobbies and interests in Japanese too! Let’s enjoy learning together and improve your Japanese naturally through fun conversation.

️ Message

Although I am still relatively new as a teacher, I focus on creating lessons where beginners can feel safe and comfortable.

I aim for lessons that make you feel:
“This is fun,” “It’s easy to talk,” and “I want to keep learning!”

I will support you slowly, carefully, and at your own pace, so you can continue learning Japanese for the long term.

Even if you are starting from beginner, that’s completely okay!
Let’s enjoy learning Japanese together
