About Nico
I've spent the last 8 years teaching English, first in Hanoi, Vietnam, and now back home in Gqeberha, South Africa where I'm tutoring international students online.
Along the way I've taught everything from young learners following different curricula to senior professionals working on their Business English. I hold an iPGCE, a TEFL certificate, and a degree in Linguistics and Anthropology — but what I value most is making lessons genuinely useful, not just academic.
I like to keep things relaxed and practical, so you leave each lesson having actually practised what you came to learn. Whether you're just starting out or polishing advanced skills, I'll tailor lessons to where you are and where you want to go.

My approach and methodology
With 8 years of in-person teaching experience in Vietnam and online to students across the globe, I focus on practical, real-world communication rather than rote learning. I've taught across Canadian, Oxford International, and Vietnamese national curricula, adapting quickly to different learners and goals. I hold an iPGCE from Liverpool John Moores University, a 120-hour TEFL certificate, and a BA in Linguistics and Anthropology from the University of the Western Cape.

What to expect from a lesson
Each lesson has a clear goal, followed by guided practice and discussion so you can apply what you've learnt right away. Business English students get vocabulary previews, adapted reading material, and discussion questions. I keep lessons relaxed and encouraging — mistakes are part of learning.
