About Vivian
With over 15 years of experience in education, I’ve had the privilege of working with students at every level—elementary, middle school, high school, and even college. In addition to my extensive experience in general education, I also have 6 years of hands-on experience working with students in special education. This has equipped me with specialized strategies to support learners who may face additional challenges, ensuring that every student I work with feels confident and capable in their learning journey. As a mother of four, a military wife, and the daughter of a missionary, my life has been anything but ordinary. These roles have shaped me into a compassionate, patient, and adaptable teacher who understands the importance of balance, commitment, and perseverance. My path has taken me to 17 countries across Europe, Africa, and the Americas, allowing me to learn from different cultures, educational systems, and teaching practices. This international experience has not only broadened my perspective but also helped me connect with students from diverse backgrounds. Whether I’m teaching a group of high schoolers, guiding a college student through complex problems, or working one-on-one with students needing extra support, I bring professionalism, empathy, and dedication to every lesson. I believe that true learning is built on trust, mutual respect, and a deep commitment to each student’s growth—not just academically, but as a person. My Teaching Approach:
My tutoring style is adaptable and personalized, designed to meet the unique needs of each student. I use a blend of direct instruction and self-directed learning, with each lesson starting from a thoughtful prompt. This prompt serves to activate intuition and spark curiosity before diving into the lesson. Projects are often incorporated to give students hands-on learning experiences, allowing them to explore math concepts in a more applied, real-world context.
A typical lesson plan includes:
Prompt to Activate Intuition: We start with a problem or question that encourages students to tap into their prior knowledge and intuition.
Lesson Notes: Key concepts and explanations are presented clearly, often with visual aids or real-life examples to make the material relatable.
Guided Practice: I walk students through problems step-by-step, offering support and addressing challenges as they arise.
Independent Practice: Students work on problems independently to reinforce their learning and build confidence.
