My Approach as a Tutor Teaching Methods and Techniques My tutoring style is grounded in a student-centered, multisensory approach. I tailor lessons to meet the developmental needs of each child while incorporating evidence-based methods such as Orton-Gillingham for phonics, guided reading strategies for ELA, and hands-on, conceptual learning in math. I use visual aids, manipulatives, movement, and storytelling to reinforce key concepts. I believe in fostering a positive learning environment that builds confidence, curiosity, and a growth mindset in every learner. A Typical Lesson Plan Each session follows a structured, yet flexible format: Warm-up/Review (5–10 min): We begin with a quick review of previously learned material or a fun, skill-based game. Direct Instruction (10–15 min): I introduce new content using clear, step-by-step explanations with real-life connections and visual supports. Guided Practice (10–15 min): Students apply skills with my support through interactive activities such as reading short texts, solving word problems, or working with phonics tiles. Independent Practice (10 min): I assess understanding with a short, independent task that provides immediate feedback. Closure & Reflection (5 min): We summarize the lesson’s key points and reflect on the student’s progress and challenges. What Sets Me Apart What makes me unique as a tutor is my dual background as both a certified K–6 teacher and a media coordinator. This means I bring a deep understanding of literacy development along with the ability to integrate technology, books, and creative resources that align with curriculum standards.
