About Kirk
I am a Professor of Agricultural and Extension Education at a major land-grant university. As part of my doctoral studies, I completed a minor in research and statistics, learning from one of the great statisticians in our profession. I now teach courses in research methodology, data collection, basic applied statistics, and multivariate data analysis. I use an applied-approach to my teaching so students can readily see how what they learn in my classes apply to their daily life and careers.

I like using a one-on-approach when tutoring students. At first, I will give a student a problem that we will work through together step=by-step so the student can understand what each step is and the important points for each step in finding the solution. We then will work through a couple more problems of the same type, but with each subsequent problem, the student will assume more responsibility in talking through the steps and leading him/herself to the solution. As a tutor, I would be there to offer suggestions and to answer questions that the student has regarding solving the problem. Ultimately, I would want the student to be able to solve a problem on his/her own without any assistance from me.
