About Rachel
I moved to the U.S. for college when I was just 18 years old. Initially, I struggled with academics and finding the right resources on top of adjusting to a new country. One of the best things I've ever done for myself was to find good tutors to mentor me and invest their time and talents towards my success.
Now that I have graduated from a top-ranked university, I want to give back my time and talents to the next generation of students. I believe all students are capable of overcoming obstacles and achieving success, and that success can look different for everyone. Whether you want to get faster at math, get an A in biology, or craft a killer essay to land that internship, I will be there to help and mentor you.
We can meet in-person or virtually, and I recommend meeting at least once a week. If you have specific learning needs (e.g. ADHD), let me know and I will do my best to accommodate them. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals!

My aim is to help students see success in the classroom and beyond. While my study plans will be customized to students' needs, I have found that the following techniques are the best when it comes to tutoring my students effectively and efficiently:
- content review
- doing practice problems
- incorporating the teach-back method
I recommend 1-1.5 hours per lesson to ensure we address all gaps in understanding and have time to plan for future lessons. Depending on the subject, I can teach all ages. I will provide practice problems and a whiteboard to draw out diagrams.

Perfect! Rachel is a fantastic tutor! My daughter needed last minute tutoring for Pre-Ap Chemistry and Rachel jumped right in to help her!
Perfect! I am currently working with Miss Rachel, a chemistry tutor, and I have to say, it is one of the best decisions I've made for my education. Miss Rachel is absolutely fantastic and exceeds all of my expectations.
First of all, Miss Rachel's knowledge of chemistry is truly impressive. She has a deep understanding of the subject matter and is able to explain complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand. She is patient and takes the time to make sure I fully grasp each topic before moving on to the next one.
Her teaching style is also top-notch. She uses a variety of teaching methods to keep the lessons engaging and interesting, and always makes sure I am comfortable with the pace of the lesson. She also encourages questions and discussion, which really helps me to solidify my understanding of the material.
Overall, I highly recommend Miss Rachel as a chemistry tutor to anyone looking to improve their understanding of the subject. Her knowledge, teaching style, and dedication to her students make her an outstanding choice for anyone seeking to excel in chemistry. Five stars all around!- I am so happy to have Troy as my student. He is a self-directed, motivated learner who communicates clearly and frequently. He is a multi-talented individual who excels in the arts. Troy learns best when we go through examples, so I encourage him to bring HW or quiz/test questions that we can go over during lessons. Overall a wonderful student and I always look forward to our lessons!Rachel's response :
Perfect! Rachel is amazing! She has created a wonderful bond with my daughter, which is imperative since my daughter has anxiety. I am sure that Rachel will help my daughter achieve her academic goals. I am thankful we found her.

- Arianna is one of my very first students, and I have to say, I could not have wished for a better pupil! She is attentive, self-directed, and is great at engaging with the material. She also has a great sense of humor:) She has shown tremendous growth and improvement, and I'm excited to see her thrive and succeed in school and beyond.Rachel's response :

I struggled with proofreading and grammar and Rachel really helped me with my work. She always champions my strength and give constructive feedback aimed at building me up and improving things I’m not strong at. Overall, a great teacher who feels like a mentor
Hello, I am a former colleague of Rachel Johnston at Baylor College of Medicine for which we participated in the school's graduate program of Biomedical Sciences and Health Equity for more than a year. During this time period, I consistently studied with Rachel who was always determinate in performing beyond just "well" in our classes. Her ambition toward global medicine, studying techniques, and straightforward but sincere drive to help those around her stood out among our cohort. Aside from her current job as a tutor, I can trust in Rachel not just because of our educational-related endeavors but because of her constant unconditional respect and helpful demeanor toward others. Cannot say I would let her write my essays because that would be cheating, but I am 100% confident her writing skills and tips would allow me to ACE my essays regardless of the class. Not sure if my recommendation means anything given my rank, but I stand by my friend as being one of the most trustworthy individuals I know and can confide with.
Rachel is an awesome instructor!
I had a very tough time once I started geometry and algebra II, Rachel found a way to break down the concepts in a way I was able to understand and was very patient. Can’t recommend a better tutorRachel and I studied in our Biochemistry courses together, and she never missed an opportunity to help me when I needed it. She always devised creative ways to teach concepts to me — diagrams, songs, and funny mnemonics are just a few examples. Most of all, I was impressed with Rachel’s character. She was always down to earth and self-deprecating, yet confident and used her strengths to empower others. She taught me how to appreciate my ADHD and to view it as an asset. Though she does not have ADHD herself, she still walked through my learning experiences with me and reminded me that I was never alone. I am indebted to Rachel, and I hope that others have the opportunity to experience her warmth and tenacity as a teacher and role model.
Rachel is an intelligent individual who has been tutoring students since her high school days. Her kind, cheerful demeanour helps put students at ease; when explaining concepts, she is patient, making sure students fully understand the subject.
Rachel Johnston had tutored me in Biology, Chemistry, and Math throughout high school. She was recommended to me by a family friend when I mentioned that I was struggling with science and writing college applications. What I really liked about Rachel that made her stand out among people who have tutored me is how she designed her lessons to fit my learning style. She explained concepts in Biology and Chemistry clearly in detail with diagrams to aid in visual engagement. In Math, Rachel not only patiently helped me improve my understanding on mathematical concepts but also taught me how to tackle any problem in math in a step by step manner. Her skills and experience in writing allowed me to get accepted to my desired college and more recently a summer undergraduate research program. For these reasons, I wholeheartedly recommend Rachel Johnston as a Superprof teacher.
