My Approach as a Digital Skills & Music Instructor
My fundamental approach is built on Empowerment through Practical Application, ensuring that every adult learner gains not only technical knowledge but also the confidence required to utilize those skills in their career and personal life. My focus is entirely learner-centered, designed to respect their time and address their immediate goals.
My Teaching Methodology and Techniques
I utilize an adaptive and highly practical methodology, drawing directly from my experience as a Digital Literacy Instructor with adult learners.
Learner-Centered Assessment: I begin every engagement with an informal needs assessment to determine the student's current skill level, their specific pain points (e.g., "I struggle with file organization," or "I need to pass a basic Excel test"), and their desired learning pace. Lessons are immediately tailored to these findings.
Just-in-Time & Project-Based Learning: I teach skills only when they are ready to be applied. We move quickly from theory to execution using short, hands-on projects. For example, instead of explaining file-naming conventions, we immediately apply them by organizing their own device or job application files.
Guided Practice & "Teach Back": During live, remote sessions, the student "drives" the process by sharing their screen while I coach them. This builds muscle memory. At the end of a session, I use the "Teach Back" technique, asking the student to explain the steps back to me. This verifies comprehension and dramatically boosts confidence.
Supportive Environment: Based on my experience with non-traditional learners, I maintain a low-stakes, non-judgmental environment where mistakes are viewed as necessary steps toward mastery.
A Typical 60-Minute Lesson Plan
A standard 60-minute session is structured to ensure focused instruction and immediate retention:
Review & Goal Setting (5 min): Quick check-in on practice/homework. Define the single, critical skill we will master by the end of the hour.
Concept Introduction (10 min): Introduce the day's topic (e.g., AI Prompting Basics or Advanced Excel Filters) using simple analogies relevant to the workplace.
Guided Practice & Application (35 min): The core of the lesson. The student shares their screen and practices the skill live, step-by-step. This is where we troubleshoot errors and solidify the technique.
"Teach Back" & Q&A (5 min): The student summarizes the new technique or demonstrates the final project, ensuring mastery and building confidence.
Homework/Action Plan (5 min): Assigning a small, manageable task (e.g., "Use the AI tool to draft three different versions of your cover letter," or "Practice this chord progression 5 times this week") to reinforce independent learning before the next session.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
What makes my offering unique is the holistic combination of specialized skills and proven experience with adult education:
PALS Experience with Adult Learners: My current role as a Digital Literacy Instructor at PALS directly demonstrates my expertise in patiently coaching adults from diverse backgrounds, which aligns precisely with Wiz Learning’s mission.
Dual Skill Mastery (Music & Advanced Tech): I possess a rare blend of a Bachelor of Arts in Music (offering a unique creative outlet and stress relief) and technical certifications in Python 3, HTML5, and advanced Excel. This allows me to effectively teach basic digital literacy while also guiding students toward advanced AI literacy and technical workplace skills.
Workforce Readiness Focus: My instruction is not academic; it’s driven by the need for tangible career outcomes. I focus on the skills necessary to succeed in a modern remote work environment: professional communication (Zoom/Teams), cloud platform navigation, and digital safety.
Who the Lessons Are For
My instruction is designed for the following groups, focusing on their specific needs for growth and confidence:
Adult Job Seekers/Career Changers: Individuals re-entering the workforce or pivoting careers who need to master digital workplace skills (e.g., Excel, professional email, file management) and confidently use technology for online applications and interviews.
Mature Workers & Underserved Learners: Adults who struggle with tech anxiety or feel left behind by new platforms (like AI). My patient, hands-on approach builds foundational digital confidence and online safety.
Beginner to Intermediate Music Students (ages 15+): Those seeking a creative outlet to learn instruments (Piano, Guitar, fundamentals to read sheet music) from an instructor who can teach theory alongside practical application.
This unique combination allows me to be a versatile and highly impactful instructor ready to help you learn and develop skills for the real world
