About Leire
I studied a Bachelor's Degree of Modern Languages in Spain. I continued my studies with a Master's Degree in Theoretical and Experimental Linguistic and and I traveled to the US to study a second Master's in Hispanic Linguistics. While studying I became a tutor of languages in Spain and I worked as an instructor of record of Spanish in the US. I have taught basic, intermediate and advanced Spanish, Spanish grammar and writing and Spanish phonology. I also teach Spanish for Heritage Speakers. I have work at remarkable Spanish institutions such as Instituto Cervantes.
I believe that it is my job to teach a second language in a way that is meaningful to students’ everyday world. Education is more than just the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction. For me, education is the ability to stimulate the learner through different methodologies of pedagogy that are resonant for each student. My classes had students from all cultures and backgrounds which made me a flexible and instructor. As an educator, I believe it is necessary for me to be adaptable to engage the different learning styles of each learner in a meaningful way. The relationship and interaction between the instructor to/from the students and teacher/students with the material is crucial for education to be successful.

My language goals have a focus on communication. In my experience as an instructor, I have mostly used the Tasked-Based approach, where each unit has a communicative task at the end: writing a letter, transmitting a message, collaborating to design something, among others. Usually, I like to use tasks that can reflect real life situations since it is more closely linked to the learners’ real needs. I believe that this aspect is highly motivating for learners and very useful. However, this does not mean that I do not work on other aspects such as grammar, in fact, this is also evaluated, but I teach it within a context: through readings or linguistic expressions that they need to use to carry out the final task for the unit. Furthermore, in order to help the students build trust in their linguistic knowledge, I expose them to a native-speaking environment, which is why I usually use the target language, unless they feel uncomfortable with it.
However, I like to speak with the students first and adapt the classes to their needs. That is one of the most important goals of my classes.
