About Ruth
I began learning the violin, french horn and piano as a child. As a teenager I studied at the Purcell School for Young Musicians with a full scholarship. For several years I also attending the Royal College of Music's junior department Saturday school. And then moved on to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for my bachelors degree. While studying I worked a little as a freelance teacher of horn and violin, and also tutored beginner pianists and singers. For the last two years I have been working for an NGO in Greece teaching guitar and facilitating creative music workshops for displaced people living in refugee camps near to Athens.

My approach as a tutor is flexible to your personal interests and goals, and the way in which you learn best. I might start by assessing your technique and addressing things that can be improved, as having a solid grounding in good technique is fundamental to your progress as a musician. I combine both analytical and creative methods of practicing as both are important to become a proficient and expressive player. When appropriate I like to help you develop aural skills and an understanding of music theory, alongside studying your instrument specifically. I have experience teaching beginner, intermediate and advanced players of all ages.
