About Libbie
I'm a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in Music Education. I have a TESOL certificate with extensive background in theater and teaching including 13 years on the college level and 8 years teaching ESL. I have experience performing in theater and concerts, and was named "One of Los Angeles' Best Teachers" by L.A. Magazine.
I taught at AF International Language School and I can provide reference. One of my strong points was helping students speak out loud -- not only to me, but to stand in front of the class and give a speech or speak to other students in groups. We had many group activities including going to coffee shops where they learned to order food; going the stores for purchases; understanding traffic signs; asking questions of people on the streets -- and much more.

I love to teach ESL and to work one-on-one. I students range from middle school to doctors from Iran who have come to the United States to prepare for medical licenses. I encourage use of online pronunciation videos and Azar books -- and singing and reading out loud are so valuable! With my students, I devise scripts to use as a guide when meeting the public.
I recently taught nurses from Viet Nam, who spoke almost no English, and within months they got comfortable enough to travel by train from Union Station in Los Angeles to Orange County by themselves to attend a church festival.
My aim is to help people gain independence and enough comfort with the English language to feel confident in English-speaking countries.
I am also a musician and was named "One of Los Angeles' best Music Teachers" by Los Angeles Magazine.
