About Vera

I completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) and A level Maths in 2020 with 42 points and an A* respectively. I thoroughly enjoyed studying the IB and GCSE before that (I achieved 9 9's, 2 8's, an A** and and A*) but I feel for current GCSE students that are having a bit of a mixed up year and so a little extra tuition can't hurt.

I feel I could really help current GCSE students understand GCSE content and exam questions better. I am also a people person and a friendly face so I hope you come to enjoy the lessons.

Currently on a gap year, I intend to start studying Chemical Physics/Chemistry and Physics at Edinburgh/Maastricht (NL) but I haven't decided which one yet. However, I also really enjoy Spanish and have studied it for 7 years and intend to continue doing so. I achieved a grade 9 in Spanish GCSE and a grade 7 (1-7) at IB higher level Spanish.

Outside of my academic life, I enjoy participating in a variety of sports and I love being outdoors (especially on or in the water). This has shown me the importance of interactive teaching, that I hope to share with you.

About the lesson

With 7 years experience in Spanish, I feel confident teaching GCSE Spanish students. Current GCSE students have had and will have strange academic years with lots of interruptions to face-to-face lectures (a very important part of learning a language), so I believe a little extra private tuition may be valuable to many.
My teaching method is based on you... The first lesson will take the form of getting to know each other, and getting to know the strengths and weaknesses of your understanding of Spanish. From there we will move on with teaching methods that you enjoy (and that will support your way of learning) to fill in the gaps: from practice questions to going over content in different ways until you reach a good understanding. Spanish lessons will include (but are not limited to) conversation sessions, grammar sessions, pronunciation practice to get rid of accents and exam technique for listening and reading tests. The lessons will take place over Zoom at the moment.
I personally completed the new 9-1 GCSE's so I am up to date with the general content and the traditional methods of teaching. I really do hope I can help you!

Vera, has been a great Maths teacher for my daughter. Since having Vera as a tutor her confidence and understanding has grown so much. We first employed Vera to help through lockdown with her home work but my daughter has asked to carry on the lessons when she returns to school as Vera is helping her understand her work so much. I would thoroughly recommend Vera to others.

Vera is the most hardworking person that I know and will work tirelessly to help and support you. I had the pleasure of teaching Vera at GCSE level (She gained the highest grades in the school.) She knows how people learn and she knows how to use a variety of revision methods and teaching methods to help support you. When ever my year 9 son has an issue with Maths homework Vera is always the first person that we ask. I totally recommend her to you.

Vera is one of the most 'people person' you can meet and can click with everyone as she always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude with anything. She would make a good tutor as she has helped me with a range of different lessons to help me get good grades and to help me understand the things I initially couldn't. Despite my difference in learning style compared to hers, she was able to tailor her teaching towards my learning style so that I was able to understand things as quickly as I could. She is one of the nicest people and very bright too and will be able to help you with practically anything as she is a hard-working person. She will help you to understand things in seconds. She would make a good tutor as she will always be on time and prepared to do anything to help you understand a certain topic. She has helped me a lot in the past in the kindest way possible and can do the same for you.
