About Rory
Hi, my name is Rory and I have had an interest and shown aptitude in Mathematics throughout high school and university, so I am well suited to tutoring in mathematical subjects from Year 7 up to Year 11 and 12 General Math, Math Methods and Specialist Math. I have been tutoring for 2+ years both in person and online and have currently helped over half a dozen students from a range of different backgrounds achieve their study goals. I also offer tutoring in first year university Math courses if needed. I graduated High School in 2020 with an ATAR of 96.40, performing especially well in Mathematics and Physics subjects, for which I received scores of 95/100, putting me in the top 4% of Methods students in Queensland that year. I was also the recipient of my school's overall Academic Dux Award. I continued this aptitude for math at university, where I studied a Bachelor of Mathematics for two years. I am currently on hiatus from university, pursuing career opportunities and in the meantime I am hoping to help others with the math skills I have acquired. During my time at university, I averaged a GPA of over 6 (on a 7 point scale). I received 7s in first year Mathematics courses such as Calculus and Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Statistics and Multivariate Calculus. While studying at UQ, I covered many topics, including some advanced third year courses.

I have been tutoring for 2+ years and have helped many students from a range of different backgrounds to achieve their study goals. I have tutored students as young as Year 7 and as old as Year 12, and everything in between. I offer lessons for any high school maths subject up to Year 11 and 12 Methods and Specialist, as well as first year university maths. Typically, my lessons have lasted for about an hour, but I am flexible as far as length and frequency goes. Ultimately, whatever is going to help my students achieve their best outcome is the way I like to do things.
I bring a practical, down-to-earth, approachable style of teaching to my students, working with them to achieve their goals and improve their mathematical skills for the future. I have received many leadership awards and recognitions, so I believe I can confidently engage with younger students and develop positive relationships with them. I also believe that my recent graduation from high school (in 2020) and recent experiences at uni leave me ideally placed to provide advice to current high school students, as I am very familiar with the senior maths syllabus.

As someone who has a hard time focusing in class and falling behind on work, after a month or two of tutoring with Rory I managed to cover a whole year of work with a deeper understanding. The style of learning was what helped the most as it was always set to my own pace, and I would never feel rushed. I usually don’t like maths- however it was actually pretty fun once I was there and it definitely changed my attitude and how I approached my school work.
