About Agnes
Hello there! My name is Agnes and I am a High School teacher in Brisbane. I became a teacher, because I enjoy working with children (they’re much more fun than adults) and wanted to share my love for literature and language. Over the last four years, I have worked with all imaginable types of students. The gifted ones, the hard-working ones, the extremely bright but unmotivated ones, the ones who are convinced they are ‘just not good at school’. What I have learned is this; success looks different for everyone, but everyone is capable of success if given the right support. It might sound cheesy, but I live for my students’ successes. There is no better feeling than a student coming up to you at the end of a lesson and saying something along the lines of, “Miss, I finally understand what a thesis is and how to write it” or “I think I get the difference between the accusative and dative case now”. To begin, I assess what your strengths and areas for growth are. For example, you’re full of ideas,but you’re struggling to put your thoughts into sentences when writing an essay. Or, perhaps, German or French grammar is easy for you, but you can’t quite wrap your head around the pronunciation.
Once I know where you are at, I devise a sequence of lessons to help you strengthen the specific skills you need. As a high school teacher, who has taught English, German, French, and Social Science, I have a comprehensive knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and the QCAA’s Senior Syllabi. Furthermore, I know how to maximise your outcomes by teaching you how to use task sheets and rubrics to your advantage.
My lessons are for High School students in Years 7-12, but I also cater to Upper Primary students. Lessons are as long as they need to and can be (everyone has different needs). If you want to immerse yourself in the subject matter, we can do a 2-hour intensive lesson. If your attention span is shorter, than a 30-minute session may be beneficial.
