About Silvia

I am a passionate and friendly teacher with 35 years full time teaching experience in Chemistry, at high school level in Romania and 9 years casual teacher and tutoring practice in Australia. I have had excellent results tutoring students for VCE (Box Hill HS, Mullum Mullum College, St Kevin’s College, Caulfield Grammar) and GAMSAT (Deakin University, Monash University and The University of Melbourne). My teaching philosophy is student centered using interactive methods with the purpose of guiding students interested in Chemistry to gain the necessary skills to accomplish their academic goals. The length of the lesson can be flexible, depending on student’s needs varying from 30 min to 2 hours.

About the lesson

I have 35 years full time teaching experience in Chemistry, at high school level in Romania and 9 years casual teacher and tutoring practice in Australia (VCE and GAMSAT). My teaching philosophy is student centered using interactive methods with the purpose of guiding students interested in Chemistry to gain the necessary skills to accomplish their academic goals. The length of the lesson can be flexible, depending on student’s needs varying from 30 min to 2 hours. My knowledge and experience will assist the students in achieving learning for understanding, demonstrated in their ability to apply the learnt concepts in new contexts. I strongly believe that a passionate and friendly tutor who knows the key references is the best guide for student’s journey on their learning path. The ideal tutor does not deliver the concepts, but rather acts as a facilitator for the students to discover and gain their knowledge and skills.

Silvia has helped me with my understanding of chemistry. She is very knowledgable about all areas of chemistry. She helped me gain a solid understanding of not only the content and question but the theory of the topic so I can use it to justify my answers. I highly recommend Silvia as your tutor.

Silvia was my chemistry tutor in year 11 and 12, she really knows her content and pushes you to go further than just memorising the content but to create a deep understanding of everything going on. Silvia is extremely warm and welcoming and will not make you feel intimidated by the content. Highly recommend her as a tutor

Silvia is a wonderful teacher! She is very patient and kind, with decades of experience, in the Australian education system and abroad.

She makes sure that students understand the right concepts and has personally helped me with university assignments, and even helped me attain a 71 in the GAMSAT. A full 15 point improvement from the first time I sat. She's brilliant! Highly recommend her for students of all ages.
