About Abigail

Hi, I'm Abigail! I'm a qualified secondary school teacher based in Glasgow, specialising in History and Modern Studies.

I graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MA in History and Politics, before completing my postgraduate teaching qualification. I also hold a Master's degree in Inclusive Education from the University of Glasgow, which has strengthened my understanding of how to support young people with different abilities, learning styles and additional support needs.

I have experience teaching History and Modern Studies across the Scottish secondary curriculum, including National 5 and Higher, as well as supporting younger pupils throughout the Broad General Education (S1–S3).

As a teacher, I am passionate about making learning accessible, engaging and enjoyable. I understand that every pupil has different strengths and challenges, and I believe that building confidence is just as important as developing academic knowledge.

I pride myself on being patient, approachable and encouraging, creating a relaxed and supportive environment where pupils feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their skills.

Having taught pupils with a wide range of abilities and additional support needs, I recognise the importance of adapting lessons to suit each individual. Whether a pupil needs help understanding course content, improving essay writing, developing exam techniques or building their confidence, I aim to make learning feel manageable and rewarding.

My goal is to help every young person feel confident in their abilities and achieve their personal best in History and Modern Studies.

I am a fully qualified secondary school teacher specialising in History and Modern Studies, with experience teaching across the Scottish curriculum, including National 5 and Higher.

My approach to tutoring is supportive, engaging and tailored to each individual pupil. I understand that every young person learns differently, so I adapt my teaching methods to suit their abilities, confidence and learning needs.

I focus on building pupils' subject knowledge, confidence and exam skills through a range of teaching techniques, including:

- Exam preparation: Working through SQA-style questions, past papers and marking instructions to develop exam technique.
- Essay writing: Supporting pupils with structuring essays, developing arguments and writing strong, detailed answers.
- Source skills: Developing the skills needed to analyse, evaluate and interpret historical and contemporary sources.
- Personalised learning: Identifying areas for improvement and creating lessons that target individual needs.
- Inclusive teaching: Using differentiated resources, visual aids and structured activities to support pupils with additional support needs.

Lessons typically last 1 hour, although this can be adapted depending on the pupil's needs. Each session combines clear explanations, guided practice, independent tasks and constructive feedback.

I hold an MA in History and Politics, a postgraduate teaching qualification and a Master's degree in Inclusive Education from the University of Glasgow. My experience as a classroom teacher has given me a strong understanding of the Scottish curriculum, assessment requirements and the challenges young people can face in their learning.

My tutoring is suitable for secondary school pupils from S1 to S6, particularly those studying National 5 or Higher History and Modern Studies. Whether a pupil is aiming to improve their grades, prepare for examinations or simply build confidence, my goal is to help them achieve their full potential in a positive and encouraging learning environment.
