About Matthew
I am currently a first-year History PhD student at Stanford University. Having graduated from the University of Cambridge (First Class Honours with Distinction), I then undertook a joint teaching and MA role at the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy before beginning a PhD at Stanford University in 2024. I graduated second in my year on the History and Politics course from Cambridge, and top of my year in my MA. I have been tutoring for over 4 years, and enjoy working with students keen to improve their skills in both history and politics.

My approach to tutoring depends largely on the needs of the student. For Oxbridge admissions, I have a series of classes designed to work on interview preparation, personal statements, and admissions assessments. Previous students have gone on to study PPE at Oxford, HSPS and History at Cambridge and History at Edinburgh.
For students looking for History or Politics A-Level tutoring, I tend to focus closely on exam and essay-writing techniques, rather than on content. Students will be given tailored strategies to meet exam board assessment objectives, and improve their essay writing skills.
