About Kenya
I became a teacher because I hope to add to the lives of little people who are still learning about their world. As much as I loved teaching in the classroom, I found that teaching one on one gives more of an opportunity to assess the needs of the learner critically, and genuinely and holistically assist them in a way that will give them the tools they need for a brighter future. Classrooms in South Africa today tend to be very full with little opportunity for individual connection - which is so important in their formative years.

Lessons are tailored to the needs of the student, and aim to cultivate self-confidence and a positive attitude towards learning.
I teach English language skills to learners at the Foundation Phase level, we find the root of the issue before deciding how to plan the lessons to the needs of the student.
Do they lack confidence? Is there a pre-reading skill that is underdeveloped? Is there lack of practice time? We'll work it out together and strengthen with activities that align with what's necessary to bring them up to speed, or get them ahead of the game!
We'll work with the South African CAPS curriculum to ensure they are in line with what they are learning at school. For learners who are not South African, reading and pre-reading skills will be developed in accordance to the level of the learner.
A typical lesson may include the following (based on the needs of the learner) - Songs, rhymes, letter recognition, sound-letter associating, decoding, reading practice, comprehension, comprehension skills, writing activities, creative writing, writing skills, handwriting, etc.
